Resume Examples and Guide For

Real Estate

Sections

A real estate resume has one job: prove you move property and money. Whether you list homes, manage a portfolio, appraise value, or close the financing, the version that earns a callback leads with hard numbers. These 23 examples are built from Huntr's real resumes database and thousands of live real estate postings, each tuned to the exact language one role screens for.

Every example here is anonymized. We count the skills real estate postings ask for most, confirm how strong resumes order their sections, and quantify what the winners actually claim, then build one clean example per role. The numbers draw on Huntr's research across 1.7 million applications and 1 million job postings, reviewed by Sam Wright, Huntr's Head of Career Strategy.

What the Strongest Real Estate Resumes Have in Common

Across the real estate postings and resumes in our data, the strongest ones share a few habits. Here is what shows up again and again.

  • They lead with a hard number. Top real estate resumes open the summary with sales volume, dollars managed, or occupancy, then let the bullets carry the rest.
  • Property management is the most-named skill. It appears in 226 of the real estate postings we analyzed, ahead of negotiation (135) and financial modeling (131).
  • They name their software by hand. Yardi alone shows up in 71 postings, and property-management, CRM, and transaction platforms recur across roles, so the winners name the exact tools they use.
  • Tailoring roughly doubles the callback rate. Across Huntr's 1.7 million applications, resumes matched to the job description reach interviews at about twice the rate of generic ones.
  • Two pages is fine. Senior agents, brokers, and asset managers who carried a full second page of quantified wins did as well as one-page resumes, so we did not compress the strongest histories.
  • Many came in from another job. Customer service, retail sales, banking, and administrative roles are the most common prior titles in this set, which is why the entry-level example leans on transferable numbers.

How to Write a Real Estate Resume

Real Estate Resume Outline

A well-structured real estate resume should include the following key sections:

  • Contact Information: Include your full name, location, phone number, email, and LinkedIn profile.
  • Professional Summary or Objective: A brief statement highlighting your key qualifications and career goals.
  • Work Experience: Detailed information about your relevant work history, including achievements and responsibilities.
  • Education: Your academic background, including degrees, certifications, and relevant coursework.
  • Skills: A list of your most relevant hard and soft skills for the real estate industry.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Any professional certifications or licenses specific to real estate.
  • Awards and Achievements: Notable recognitions or accomplishments in your real estate career.
  • Additional Sections: You may include sections such as Professional Affiliations, Languages, or Volunteer Experience if relevant to the position.

Which Resume Layout Should a Real Estate Professional Use?

For most real estate professionals, a reverse-chronological resume layout is the most effective choice. This format highlights your most recent and relevant experience first, which is particularly important in the fast-paced real estate industry. However, consider the following factors when choosing your layout:

  • Reverse-Chronological: Best for professionals with a steady career progression in real estate.
  • Functional: May be suitable for career changers or those with gaps in employment, focusing on skills rather than work history.
  • Combination: Ideal for experienced professionals who want to highlight both their skills and work history equally.

Regardless of the layout you choose, ensure your resume is clean, well-organized, and easy to read. Use consistent formatting, clear headings, and bullet points to make your information easily scannable.

What Your Real Estate Resume Header Should Include

Your real estate resume header should be concise yet informative, providing essential contact information for potential employers or clients. Here are some examples:

Sarah Johnson

[email protected] - (310) 555-6789 - Los Angeles, CA - linkedin.com/in/example

Why it works

- Full name is prominently displayed - Location includes city and state, which is important for real estate roles - Phone number and email address are easily accessible - LinkedIn profile is included for additional professional information - Information is concise and well-organized

J. Smith

john.s@email - (555) 123-4567

Bad example

- Full name is not provided, which may appear unprofessional - Location is missing, which is crucial for real estate positions - Email address is incomplete and may be confusing - LinkedIn profile is not included, missing an opportunity to showcase professional presence - Overall, the header lacks important information and appears incomplete

What Your Real Estate Resume Summary Should Include

A compelling real estate resume summary should concisely highlight your most relevant qualifications, experience, and achievements. It should give potential employers or clients a quick overview of your value proposition. Include the following elements:

  • Years of experience in the real estate industry
  • Key areas of expertise or specialization
  • Notable achievements or recognitions
  • Unique skills or qualifications that set you apart
  • Your career objective or what you can bring to the role

Keep your summary to 3-4 sentences or bullet points, focusing on the most impactful information.

We counted the skills named in real estate job postings. Put the ones that match your target role near the top of your resume, in the same words the posting uses.

  • Core real estate: property management appears in 226 postings, market analysis in 73, and commercial real estate in 57. Name the specialty that matches the job.
  • Financial and analytical: financial modeling (131), Excel (131), financial analysis (120), and budgeting (63) carry the analyst, acquisitions, and asset-management roles.
  • Tools and software: Yardi leads the named platforms at 71 postings, with CRM and transaction software close behind, so list the exact products you use.
  • People skills, with proof: communication, organization, and negotiation top every list, but list them only when a nearby bullet shows them in action.

Action Verbs for Real Estate Resumes

Open every bullet with a verb that shows ownership. For sales and leasing: closed, negotiated, converted, prospected, listed. For management and operations: oversaw, streamlined, reduced, retained, coordinated. For analysis and finance: modeled, underwrote, valued, forecasted, audited. Skip "responsible for" and "assisted with"; they hide the result.

Turn a Weak Real Estate Bullet Into a Strong One

Same job, two bullets. The second one gets the call.

Weak

Responsible for managing properties and keeping tenants happy while handling leasing and maintenance.

Strong

Managed 15 properties totaling 1M+ square feet, lifting occupancy from 85% to 97% in 18 months and cutting emergency repair costs 30%.

The fix is not longer, it is specific. Add the count, the before-and-after, and the timeframe.

Real Estate Agent vs Real Estate Broker: What Changes on the Resume

The two resumes read differently, and hiring managers know within seconds which one you sent.

  • Scope: an agent resume centers on personal sales volume. A broker resume centers on the brokerage: agents managed, offices run, and total volume across the team.
  • Metrics: agents lead with deals closed, price-to-list ratio, and days on market. Brokers lead with agency growth, recruiting and retention, and profit.
  • Narrative: the agent proves individual production. The broker proves they build and grow a business, which is why leadership and strategy skills move to the top.

Get a Real Estate Resume Past the Screeners

Most brokerages and property firms run resumes through an applicant tracking system before a person reads them. Use the job title exactly as the posting writes it, name your license and certifications in full, and match the software the posting lists, from Yardi to MLS to Argus, word for word. Run your resume through Huntr's keyword scanner to catch missing terms, then use the resume tailor to align it to each posting before you apply.

Real Estate Resume FAQ

How long should a real estate resume be?

One page early in your career, two pages once you have a track record worth quantifying. Senior agents, brokers, and asset managers who filled a full second page with numbers did as well as one-pagers in our data, so do not cut real wins to hit an arbitrary limit.

Do I need to list my license and certifications?

Yes, and list them in full. Postings screen for the license by name and for designations like CPM, CCIM, CRS, and GRI. Put your active license near the top and certifications in their own section.

How do I write a real estate resume with no experience?

Lead with transferable numbers. Customer service, retail sales, and administrative roles all produce metrics a broker trusts: clients served, satisfaction rates, targets beaten. Name your new license, then let those numbers carry the resume, as the entry-level example above does.

What skills should I put on a real estate resume?

Match the posting. Property management, negotiation, market analysis, and the exact software named, such as Yardi, MLS, Argus, and a CRM, are the most-screened. List people skills only when a nearby bullet shows them at work.

Methodology

Every resume on this page is illustrative and anonymized. We build each one from real estate job postings and resumes in Huntr's database: we count the skills a given role asks for most, confirm how strong resumes in that field order their sections, and quantify achievements at levels those resumes actually show. The purple label on each example names the number of real postings it was built from.

Names, employers, and schools are invented, and comparable real firms and programs stand in for the originals so each example reads like a real career without pointing at any one person. The figures are representative of the role, not lifted from a single resume, and when an example draws on a small posting pool we say so in its label. For the broader dataset behind these examples, see Huntr's research.

Conclusion

The pattern across every strong real estate resume is the same: it leads with a number and never makes the reader guess. Whether you close homes, manage a portfolio, underwrite deals, or run the office, pick the example that matches your target role, then swap in your own volume, occupancy, and dollar figures. Tailor it to each posting, name your license and tools exactly, and keep the wins quantified. Ready to build yours?
