20 Communications Resume Examples, Backed by Real Interview Data (2026)
by Sam WrightCommunications resume examples from real resumes that reached interviews at Microsoft, Salesforce, and PayPal, plus PR, internal, and content models.
Build a resume for freeA communications resume is judged the way your work is: by whether it reached people and moved them. The real resumes behind this page show what that looks like in numbers, from a first coordinator role sending a 40,000-person newsletter to a 15-year leader who scaled internal comms for a program that grew from $11 billion to $40 billion. The pattern is reach and adoption, not adjectives.
This page draws on the 753 communications resumes in Huntr's system, shaped into an anonymized composite of the ones that reached interviews. The verified group is made from actual resumes and not a template. It rests on our research and was reviewed by Sam Wright, Huntr's Head of Career Strategy. We swap names, employers, and schools so no example points to a real person, and the role-specific examples after it are labeled and built from what 3,997 real communications postings ask for.
Write a comms resume people read
Huntr's resume builder starts you from structures that reached interviews, then matches your reach and adoption numbers to each posting.
What Communications Resumes That Reached Interviews Share
We looked at 34 resumes from 18 people who reached communications interviews on Huntr, alongside 3,997 postings. The figures in this section come from those two sets.
- One person in this set came from cybersecurity. Their interview-stage resume kept the CompTIA badges but led with the comms work: training content, internal briefings, the messages that reached staff. The pivot read as a writer who already knew the audience, not a leap.
- Communications is a project job first. Project management shows up in 40% of the 3,997 postings, ahead of writing itself. If you ran a launch or a campaign end to end, say so and put a date on it.
- Writing is still the trade. It lands in 27% of postings, with editing at 17% and storytelling at 17% right behind. Show the piece and the result, not the adjective.
- Earned media is its own core. Media relations (23%) and public relations (16%) carry it. If you placed a story or ran a press cycle, name the outlet tier and the coverage it drove.
- Social runs through the role. 21% of postings ask for it once you merge the wording. Reach and engagement numbers belong in the bullet, never "grew our presence."
- Internal and strategic comms are separate lanes. Internal communications (10%) and strategic communications (10%) split from the external work. Pick the lane you actually worked and back it with adoption or open-rate figures.
- Employers name the connective skills too. Collaboration (22%), stakeholder engagement (14%), and organizational skills (14%) all rank. In comms, collaboration means you moved a message through legal, product, and the C-suite without it breaking.
- Tools skew light. Microsoft Office (7.1%), graphic design (6.3%), and Canva (5.6%) are the most named, so this is not a heavy-stack role. The resume wins on numbers about reach and adoption, not a tool list.
- Almost everyone wrote a summary. In this cohort about 94% carried a written summary and most resumes sat just under two pages. Senior histories ran past two pages and still reached interviews, so order the climb rather than crush it to one page.
A Communications Resume That Reached Interviews
This composite mirrors real resumes from the interview set above. The name, schools, and details are swapped; the interview companies named are real.

Why it works: The resume proves reach and adoption instead of describing them. Fifteen years of work reads as a climb in audience size and message impact, not a list of channels owned. See the methodology for how these are built.
The summary: Three lines that name the specialty (executive, internal, and change communications) and carry one scope number that only a senior leader could claim: internal comms scaled for a program that grew from $11B to $40B with 1,000-plus employees.
The experience: Adoption is the through-line. An internal podcast with 22,000-plus downloads, a weekly newsletter to 10,000-plus employees, over 80% adoption of a social collaboration pilot among 1,000 staff, a website redesign of 70-plus pages, and a launch playbook that sold 2M-plus units in four months.
The skills: Named the way postings name them: executive and internal communications, change management, crisis communications, media relations, content strategy, editorial calendars, plus the tools (Microsoft 365, WordPress, HubSpot, Google Analytics) and AP Style.
The remaining examples are illustrative, labeled on every callout. Each is built from the skills real communications postings ask for, so you can see how a specific lane reads on paper.

Skills for a Communications Resume
We counted skills across 3,997 real communications postings on Huntr. Pull from what employers actually ask for, then keep only what the specific posting names.
Core: communication (39% of postings), project management (40%), writing (27%), collaboration (22%), organizational skills (14%), stakeholder engagement (14%), leadership (9%).
Craft: media relations (23%), editing (17%), storytelling (17%), public relations (16%), content creation (16%), internal communications (10%), strategic communications (10%). Pick the lane you worked; do not claim all of them.
Tools: Microsoft Office (7.1%), graphic design (6.3%), Canva (5.6%), Google Analytics, and a CMS or email platform. This is a light-stack role, so name only the tools you have shipped work in.
How to use this: The interview cohort listed a median of about 14 skills, fewer than most technical roles. Match the set to the posting and lead with the ones tied to a reach or adoption number in your bullets. A list with no numbers behind it reads decorative.
Action Verbs for Communications Resumes
Reach: published, placed, earned, grew, distributed. Use these where an audience number or a rate can follow: grew the newsletter to 140,000 subscribers at a 34% open rate.
Adoption: drove, lifted, raised, sustained, standardized. These carry the after-number: lifted all-hands attendance from 40% to 68%; drove 91% acknowledgment of a change plan.
Craft: wrote, edited, pitched, ghostwrote, produced. Pair with output and result: pitched 70 stories a year; edited to house style with same-week turnaround.
The weak version of every comms bullet starts with "responsible for." The strong version starts with what you shipped and ends with who it reached or what they did next.
Turn a Weak Comms Bullet Into a Strong One
Weak
Responsible for managing internal communications and social media, and for growing the company's presence across channels.
Strong
Ran internal comms for 6,000 staff across 11 sites, lifted all-hands attendance from 40% to 68%, and grew intranet engagement 45% with a weekly employee story channel.
Same job, real evidence. The strong bullet answers the questions a comms hiring manager actually has: who did it reach, did they engage, and did the number move.
Communications vs Marketing on a Resume
Goal: communications protects and shapes reputation and understanding; marketing drives demand and revenue. Metrics: a comms resume proves reach, sentiment, adoption, and coverage; a marketing resume proves leads, conversion, and pipeline. Audience: comms often writes to employees, press, and executives; marketing writes to buyers. If your bullets end in earned placements and employee adoption rather than sales, the comms framing fits better.
Help a Communications Resume Clear the Screeners
Automated screeners read your resume before a person does. Keep the title standard (Communications Manager, not Storytelling Guru), spell out each lane the first time (internal communications, media relations, strategic communications), and mirror the posting's exact skill names, since a screener matches strings, not intent. Run the posting through Huntr's keyword scanner to see the gaps, then let Resume Tailor fold the match into your bullets. Tailored resumes reach interviews at about twice the rate of generic ones in our data.
Communications Resume FAQ
How long should a communications resume be?
Just under two pages is the norm. In our interview cohort most resumes sat near a page and a half, and senior histories that ran past two pages still reached interviews. Order the climb in audience and impact rather than cutting real work to hit one page.
Which skills matter most on a communications resume?
Start from the posting. Across 3,997 communications postings the constants are communication (39%), project management (40%), writing (27%), media relations (23%), collaboration (22%), and one clear lane, whether internal, strategic, or public relations. The interview cohort listed a median of about 14 skills, tailored per application.
Do I need a certification to get communications interviews?
No. Certifications in this cohort were thin and scattered, mostly digital-marketing and content basics, with no single PR or comms credential common. Reach and adoption numbers carried the resumes far more than any badge.
How do I move into communications from another field?
Lead with the comms work you already did. One person in this set came from cybersecurity, kept the technical badges, and led with training content and internal briefings. Newsletters you wrote, launches you announced, and messages you moved through stakeholders are communications; write those bullets with audience numbers.
Methodology
The verified example is a composite of real resumes attached to jobs that reached the interview stage for communications roles on Huntr: 34 resumes from 18 people. We swap names, employers, and schools for comparable real ones and check every swap against our database so no example points to a real person. Where a single resume anchors a figure we shift its numbers to nearby values; blended composites keep figures as written. The interview and offer companies we name are real and left unchanged.
The role-specific examples are illustrative, marked as such on every callout, and they make no interview claim. Their skills come from the 3,997 postings cited above, and their shape follows what the verified resume does: one reach number in the summary, an adoption or coverage figure in every bullet, and skills named the way a posting would name them.
Conclusion
Across the resumes that reached communications interviews, one habit held: they counted reach and adoption instead of describing them. A summary that names one audience number, bullets that report who a message reached and what they did next, a lane stated plainly, and a length that respects the climb. It does not take a rare credential. It takes evidence that your words landed.
