Data Manager Resume Examples: 21 Templates (2026)
by Sam Wright21 data manager resume examples built from real governance, master data, clinical, and database job postings, from associate to head of data.
Build a resume for freeA data manager owns the information a business runs on: who can touch it, whether it can be trusted, and how it moves from source to report. The strongest resumes in this field prove three things fast, so they read less like a duty list and more like real resumes that name scope, name the tooling, and put a number on data quality, governance, and delivery.
The examples below are illustrative. We built each one from the real data management, governance, and clinical-data job postings in Huntr's database, drawing on the skills, titles, and scope those listings ask for, then anonymized every detail so no line traces to a real person. The posting counts come from the same research base behind our annual job search trends report.

Start from a clear, posting-tested structure and tailor it to the role in front of you.
What Strong Data Manager Resumes Show
Data management is not one job. It spans core management roles, a large governance field, master data, clinical trials, and the database floor, and each asks for a slightly different resume. We read the real postings across all of them. A few patterns held everywhere.
- Governance is the center of gravity. Governance, quality, metadata, and cataloging roles alone account for more than 1,219 of the postings we pulled, far more than any other slice. Resumes that name a framework, a catalog tool, and a measurable quality lift read straight to the work.
- Tools are non-negotiable, and they are specific. SQL, Power BI, Python, Tableau, and a governance platform like Collibra or Informatica show up again and again. Postings name the stack, so the resume should too, in a section a recruiter can scan in seconds.
- Many strong candidates arrive sideways. Data managers rarely start here. The postings and the resumes behind them read like people who moved up from analyst, database administrator, or business-intelligence roles and learned to own the data, not just query it. If that is your path, lead with the ownership.
- The metric is the point. Records governed, quality scores lifted, pipelines stabilized, audit findings cleared, stakeholders served. A summary that opens with one hard number outperforms a paragraph of adjectives every time.
- Two pages is normal here. Between the tooling, the domains, and the compliance work, senior data managers carry a lot of relevant detail. Our data shows two-page resumes perform as well or better across levels, so use the room if you have earned it.
Associate Data Manager Resume Example
Illustrative example
Associate-level roles sit at the entry of the 84 core data management postings in this family, where a first real ownership job means quality rules, a glossary, and a dashboard someone downstream depends on. Every line here is built to those listings.

Skills for a Data Manager Resume
Group your skills so a recruiter can scan them in seconds, then pull the exact terms from the posting. Across the data management, governance, and clinical postings in our database, the demand clusters into three bands.
Core data management: data governance frameworks, data quality, master data management, metadata management, data lineage, data modeling, data cataloging, business glossary development, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA). Governance roles should lean into Collibra, DAMA-DMBOK, lineage, and glossary work; MDM roles into match-merge and global IDs; clinical roles into CDISC and GCP.
Tools and platforms: SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Snowflake, Databricks, Airflow, AWS, Azure, Collibra, Informatica Data Quality (IDQ), GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint. Name the ones the posting names, in the version and vendor it uses.
Operating and people: stakeholder management, strategic leadership, change management, project management, and Agile (Scrum). These are what separate a data manager from a data analyst, so make them visible, not buried.
Action Verbs for Data Manager Resumes
Open each bullet with a verb that fits the work, then attach a number. Four families cover most data manager resumes.
Govern and control: governed, standardized, cataloged, classified, documented, enforced, reconciled.
Improve and measure: raised, reduced, automated, remediated, validated, profiled, audited.
Build and deliver: built, designed, migrated, consolidated, implemented, launched, integrated.
Lead and align: led, chaired, managed, mentored, partnered, negotiated, aligned.
Weak verbs describe presence ("responsible for," "helped with"). Strong verbs describe a result, and a result invites a number.
Turn a Weak Data Manager Bullet Into a Strong One
Weak
Responsible for data quality and helping with the governance program.
Strong
Raised the composite data quality score from 68 to 96 percent across two core domains by building 500-plus automated rules in Informatica IDQ.
The strong version names the scope (two core domains), the result (68 to 96 percent), and the method (500-plus automated rules in a named tool). Every bullet on your resume should carry those three: what you owned, what changed, and how.
Data Manager vs Data Analyst: What Changes on the Resume
The two roles touch the same data, but the resumes read differently. If you are moving up from analysis, see our data analyst resume examples for the level below, then make these three shifts.
Scope: an analyst resume shows questions answered, dashboards built, analyses delivered. A data manager resume shows a system owned: domains governed, quality programs run, a team led. Lead with ownership, not output.
Metrics: an analyst proves personal output, reports shipped or insights found. A data manager proves the state of the data itself: a quality score, an adoption rate, an uptime number, records governed. Those are the numbers hiring managers scan for.
Narrative: an analyst resume reads "I found the answer." A data manager resume reads "I made the data trustworthy for everyone who needs an answer." If you are aiming for management, tell the second story.
Get a Data Manager Resume Past the Screeners
Most data management employers, especially banks, health systems, and government agencies, run resumes through an applicant tracking system before a person reads them. A few habits keep yours parseable. Use a standard single-column layout, since tables and text boxes often scramble on parse. Name tools exactly as the posting does, including the vendor and version ("Informatica Data Quality (IDQ)," "Collibra," "Medidata Rave"), because the screener matches strings, not synonyms. Spell out an acronym once with its expansion, like "Master Data Management (MDM)," so both forms match. Put your skills in real text, never inside an image. Then check the match against the job description with our keyword scanner, and use the resume tailor to align each application to the posting in front of you.
Data Manager Resume FAQ
How long should a data manager resume be?
Two pages is normal and usually better at this level. Between the tooling, the domains you have governed, and the compliance work, one page rarely holds it. Our data shows two-page resumes perform as well or better than one-page across all levels, so use the room, but fill it with scope and results, not filler.
Which certifications are worth listing?
List the ones the posting names and the ones that gate the job. The Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) from DAMA International is the broadest signal for governance and management roles, offered at Associate through Master levels. For master data and quality work, an Informatica certification carries weight. Clinical data managers should list the CCDM; privacy-heavy roles, a CIPP. DASCA credentials are a reasonable add for data-science-adjacent roles. Put certifications near the top only if they are required; otherwise a clean certifications section near your education is enough.
How do I write a data manager resume with no direct experience?
Most data managers come from analyst, database administrator, or business-intelligence roles, so lead with the ownership you already have. Frame the work you have done in governance terms: a data-quality fix you drove, a glossary or catalog you started, a source-of-truth problem you solved, a report everyone finally trusted. Name the tools (SQL, Power BI, a catalog or quality platform), quantify the change, and title the section around data ownership rather than analysis. A CDMP Associate certification signals intent while you build the track record.
What skills should be on a data manager resume?
Match the posting first. Then pair the governance core (data governance frameworks, data quality, master data management, metadata, lineage, and the relevant compliance standard) with the tools employers ask for most (SQL, Python, Power BI or Tableau, Snowflake, and a platform like Collibra or Informatica) and the operating skills that mark a manager (stakeholder management, change management, and leadership). Tailor the mix to the specialty: governance, MDM, clinical, and database roles each weight these differently.
Methodology
Every example on this page is illustrative. We built each one from the real data management, governance, master data, clinical data, and database job postings in Huntr's database, drawing on the titles those listings use, the scope and seniority they describe, and the skills they name most. The posting count in each purple callout is the real number of listings behind that specialty, from more than 1,219 governance postings down to the handful that define narrower niches like product or marketing data.
The people are not real. Names, employers, schools, dates, and every metric are fabricated to be realistic and role-appropriate, then checked so no detail traces to an actual person. Company names are real, comparable organizations used only to make the career arc read plausibly to a recruiter. These are examples of what a strong data manager resume can look like for each specialty and level, not records of specific hires or applications.
Conclusion
The data management field is wider than one title, but the strong resumes share a habit: they put a number on the data. A quality score that moved, a catalog people adopted, an estate governed, an uptime held, a trial locked clean. Whatever your specialty, own a system, prove its state with a metric, and name the tools the posting names.
Start from one of the structures above in Huntr's resume builder, then tailor it to each posting with the resume tailor. If your path is heading toward pipelines, algorithms, or reporting, our data engineer, data scientist, and business intelligence resume examples cover the adjacent roles.
