Director of Operations Resume Examples (2026)
by Sam Wright25 director of operations resume examples: one verified from a real interview-stage resume, the rest built from real senior-operations job postings.
Build a resume for freeA director of operations owns how a company runs: the budget, the head count, the systems, and the results that cross every team. The resumes that win this job read less like a duty list and more like real resumes that put a number on P&L, scale, and cross-functional change. This page shows one that reached the interview stage and a set of examples built to the real senior-operations postings employers are filling now.
One example below is verified: a real, anonymized resume that reached the interview stage, with the firms named. The rest are illustrative, built from the real senior-operations job postings in Huntr's database and the skills, titles, and scope those listings ask for. Every posting count comes from the same research base behind our annual job search trends report, and every example was reviewed by Sam Wright.

What Director of Operations Resumes That Got Interviews Had in Common
Operations leadership is not one job. It spans budget ownership, systems, service, supply chain, and people, and the resume has to prove reach across all of it fast. Reading the real postings and the resume behind the interviews, a few patterns held.
- They led with P&L and scale, not duties. The summary opened on a hard number, a budget owned, a team size, an efficiency or savings figure, so a recruiter saw the scope in the first line instead of a paragraph of adjectives.
- The path was rarely a straight line. The operations leader whose resume reached interviews here came up through commercial construction-site cleaning crews and a nonprofit's digital fundraising before running company-wide operations. Sideways experience is an asset when you frame it as ownership.
- Cross-functional results carried the story. Cost cut, cycle time reduced, SLA lifted, error rates down, retention up. Directors are hired to move numbers across teams, so the strong bullets each named what they owned, what changed, and how.
- The tools were named, not implied. Lean Six Sigma, an ERP or CRM, a BI platform like Power BI or Tableau, and a work-management tool like Asana or Monday.com. Postings name the stack, so the resume did too, in a section a recruiter can scan in seconds.
- Two pages was the norm. Between P&L, systems, and a decade or more of scope, senior operations resumes carry a lot of relevant detail. Our data shows two-page resumes perform as well or better across levels, so use the room if you have earned it.
A Director of Operations Resume That Reached Interviews
This is a real resume, anonymized. It belongs to an operations leader who reached the interview stage at several firms with the version below. The name and identifying details were changed and the figures nudged, but the structure and the results are hers.

Why it works: It reads like an operator who turns friction into money. It names the scope, names the tools, and puts a dollar figure on nearly every result. How this resume was verified and anonymized is in the methodology.
The summary: Opens with 20 years and a hard number, $2.5M in annual efficiency gains, then frames the work as turning operational friction into measurable business value rather than listing responsibilities.
The experience: Every role carries scope and a result: 600-plus global employees directed, error rates cut 65 percent, operational costs down 35 percent for roughly $10M in annual savings, response time cut 35 percent. The arc from field operations supervisor to director reads clearly.
The skills: The stack a recruiter scans for sits up front, Lean Six Sigma, SOP development and governance, Power BI, Salesforce, Zendesk, and Monday.com, matching the process-and-systems language senior operations roles use.

Tools and platforms: an ERP such as SAP or NetSuite, a CRM such as Salesforce, a BI platform such as Power BI or Tableau, work management such as Asana, Monday.com, or Jira, and light SQL for pulling your own numbers. Name the ones the posting names, in the vendor and version it uses.
Leadership and people: cross-functional leadership, team leadership, stakeholder management, KPI development and dashboard reporting, and forecasting. These are what separate a director from a manager, so make them visible, not buried.
Action Verbs for Director of Operations Resumes
Open each bullet with a verb that fits the work, then attach a number. Four families cover most operations-leadership resumes.
Own and direct: owned, directed, ran, oversaw, led, chaired, governed.
Improve and cut: streamlined, reduced, cut, automated, standardized, consolidated, optimized.
Build and scale: built, launched, scaled, implemented, redesigned, integrated, restructured.
Align and grow: aligned, partnered, negotiated, mentored, delivered, grew, forecasted.
Weak verbs describe presence ("responsible for," "helped with"). Strong verbs describe a result, and a result invites a number.
Turn a Weak Director of Operations Bullet Into a Strong One
Weak
Responsible for daily operations and helping improve processes across the team.
Strong
Directed daily operations for a 250-person organization on a $30M budget, cutting operating cost 22 percent in two years through a Lean redesign of core workflows.
The strong version names the scope (250 people, $30M), the result (cost cut 22 percent), and the method (a Lean redesign of core workflows). Every bullet on a director's resume should carry those three: what you owned, what changed, and how.
Director of Operations vs Operations Manager: What Changes on the Resume
The two roles run the same operation, but the resumes read differently. If you are moving up from the floor, see our operations manager resume examples for the level below, then make these three shifts.
Scope: a manager resume shows a team and a process run well. A director resume shows a function or a P&L owned: a budget, multiple teams or sites, and a strategy set. Lead with ownership, not activity.
Metrics: a manager proves execution, SLA hit, throughput raised, a team developed. A director proves business outcomes: margin, cost base, revenue, retention, and the numbers a P&L is judged on. Those are what a hiring committee scans for.
Narrative: a manager resume reads "I ran the operation well." A director resume reads "I set the operating strategy and the numbers moved." If you are aiming for the director seat, tell the second story.
Get a Director of Operations Resume Past the Screeners
Most companies run resumes through an applicant tracking system before a person reads them, and senior-operations roles draw enough applicants that the screen matters. A few habits keep yours parseable. Use a standard single-column layout, since tables and text boxes often scramble on parse. Name tools exactly as the posting does, including the vendor ("Salesforce," "SAP," "Power BI," "Workfront"), because the screener matches strings, not synonyms. Spell out an acronym once with its expansion, like "profit and loss (P&L)" or "overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)," so both forms match. Put your metrics in real text, never inside an image or a chart. Then check the match against the job description with our keyword scanner, and use the resume tailor to align each application to the posting in front of you.
Director of Operations Resume FAQ
How long should a director of operations resume be?
Two pages is normal and usually better at this level. Between the P&L, the systems, the sites, and a decade or more of scope, one page rarely holds it. Our data shows two-page resumes perform as well or better than one-page across all levels, so use the room, but fill it with scope and results, not filler.
Do I need an MBA or a PMP to be a director of operations?
Neither is required, and plenty of strong directors have neither. An MBA helps for VP and SVP tracks and for roles that lean on strategy and finance. A PMP or a Lean Six Sigma belt signals process discipline and is common in manufacturing, healthcare, and construction operations. List the credential if the posting names it or if it is standard in your industry; otherwise let the results carry the resume.
How do I move from operations manager to director of operations?
Reframe the work you already own in director terms. Trade activity for ownership: instead of "managed a team," show a function, a budget, or a P&L you influenced. Put a business number on each result, not just an operational one. Name the strategy you set, not only the process you ran. If you have led cross-functional work or deputized for a director, lead with it. An assistant or deputy director title on the resume, even informally earned, helps bridge the gap.
What skills should be on a director of operations resume?
Match the posting first. Then pair the operations core (strategic planning, P&L and budget management, process improvement, and change management) with the tools employers ask for most (an ERP, a CRM, a BI platform, and a work-management tool) and the leadership skills that mark a director (cross-functional leadership, KPI development, and stakeholder management). Tailor the mix to the specialty: manufacturing, healthcare, RevOps, and IT operations each weight these differently.
Methodology
This page has two kinds of example, and we label each one. The first is verified: a real resume from a person who reached the interview stage, shown with the interviewing firms named. We changed the name, the schools, and the identifying details, and we nudged every figure to a nearby number, so the resume is realistic and true to the work without being an exact reproduction of one person's document. The companies where the resume reached interviews are real and unchanged.
Every other example is illustrative. We built each one from the real senior-operations job postings in Huntr's database, drawing on the titles those listings use, the scope and seniority they describe, and the skills they name most. The posting count in each purple callout is the real number of listings behind that specialty. The people are not real: names, employers, schools, dates, and metrics are fabricated to be realistic and role-appropriate, then checked so no detail traces to an actual person. Company names are real, comparable organizations used only to make each career arc read plausibly to a recruiter.
Conclusion
Across every level, function, and industry, the strong operations-leadership resumes share one habit: they put a number on the operation. A budget owned, a margin moved, a cost base cut, a service level held, a team built. Whatever your specialty, own a function or a P&L, prove its state with a metric, and name the tools the posting names.
