The Q2 2026 Job Search Trends Report

Huntr analyzed 179k saved jobs, 103k applications, and 32k tailored resumes from Q2 2026. Median time to first offer fell 24% from Q1. Plus: insights on ATS platforms, job boards, and resume practices tied to interviews.

Introduction

The second quarter of 2026 brought relief for job seekers on Huntr. Drawing on 179,363 saved jobs and 32,082 tailored resumes, Huntr's Q2 2026 dataset shows a median 82 days from the first saved job in a tracked search to a recorded first offer, down 24% from 108 days in Q1. It is the first quarterly decline in this series.

We continued to track the best job sites and job boards in this sample. LinkedIn accounts for 76% of saves attributed to a classified job board or aggregator, while applications sourced through google.com were marked interviewed at 2.4x linkedin.com's rate.

Other patterns changed too. Greenhouse, the largest ATS domain in Huntr's captured ATS-routed application mix, gave up more than five points of it’s marktet share.

New this quarter: we turned the lens on the saved postings themselves. The share of jobs naming an AI skill doubled in eighteen months, and AI-skill jobs with salary data advertised a $44,500 higher median top of range than other jobs. Advertised salary ranges climbed about 12%. And the share of jobs requiring a bachelor's degree fell seven points since late 2024.

We also added an AI impact section which we will expanding in quarters to come.

A note of caution before the charts: 82 days is relief only when set against 108. Among searches that reached a recorded offer, the median still runs weeks longer than it did in mid 2025. Several observed patterns favor selective, well-tracked searches, but this report does not measure the effect of any single strategy. Applications with a tailored resume did have a higher recorded interview rate, a pattern we also saw in Q1 and across 2025.

The Spike Breaks: Among searches with a recorded first offer, the median fell to 82 days in Q2 2026 from 108 days in Q1, the first quarterly decline in this series.

Recorded Interview Timelines Shortened: The median from search start to first interview fell from 29 days to 23. Other medians were 6 days from application to interview and 10 days from interview to offer.

Lower-Volume User Groups Had Higher Per-Application Rates: Among users with at least 11 Q2 applications, the 11-to-20 group had an 8.12% recorded interview rate per application, compared with 2.86% for the 100-plus group. The 2.8x ratio does not show the effect of sending fewer applications. Across the four groups, 1,925 users logged 90,924 applications.

Higher-Repeat Company Groups Had Lower Per-Application Rates: Applying 8 or more times at one company was associated with a 1.85% per-application recorded interview rate, less than a third of the 6.14% rate among user-company pairs with one application. These groups differ, so this is not the measured effect of sending another application. The one-application group holds 82,625 applications; the 8-plus group holds 2,266.

From Job Search Sites Section

Google-Sourced Applications Led This Site Cut: Applications sourced through google.com had a 7.91% recorded interview rate, 2.4x linkedin.com's 3.36%. Seek (5.24%), Wellfound (5.20%), Welcome to the Jungle (4.70%), and Computrabajo (3.63%) also had higher unadjusted rates than LinkedIn over the past twelve months. Google's rate rests on 1,630 applications in a 601,815-application window.

Greenhouse Slips: Greenhouse lost 5.2 percentage points of share within Huntr's captured ATS-routed applications year over year, its first major drop in this series. Workday gained 3.7 points, Ashby gained 2.8, and Lever's captured share fell.

Remote-Only Jobs Ranked Last: Remote-only applications had a 3.53% recorded interview rate, the lowest arrangement in this Q2 cut and 42% below hybrid-only at 6.07%. The cut covers 20,466 remote-only, 14,850 onsite-only, and 10,599 hybrid-only applications.

The Salary Transparency Gap Persists: Applications to jobs with a disclosed salary had a 4.38% recorded interview rate, compared with 6.21% without one. Q1 showed a similar gap. The comparison covers 32,658 disclosing and 70,119 nondisclosing applications.

AI-Skill Mentions Doubled: 13.4% of jobs saved in Q2 2026 name an AI skill, up from 6.8% in Q4 2024. Jobs with an AI skill and salary data advertised a median top of range of $190,000, against $145,500 for other jobs. Their recorded interview rates were 4.97% and 5.74%, respectively. Samples: 179,363 saved jobs; 8,139 AI-skill jobs with salary data.

Posted Pay Keeps Climbing: The exact median advertised range among US-dollar yearly postings with positive lower and upper bounds rose from $100,000-$140,000 in Q4 2024 to $112,000-$157,000 in Q2 2026, about 12% at both ends in eighteen months. Q2 2026 rests on 35,104 jobs.

From Resume Insights

Tailored-Resume Applications Had a 1.85x Higher Recorded Rate: In the displayed all-application comparison, applications with a tailored resume had a 5.71% recorded interview rate, against 3.09% without one. The comparison covers 101,501 tailored and 1,893,054 untailored applications.

Dollar-Figure Summaries Had Higher Recorded Rates: Resume summaries with a dollar figure had a 7.24% recorded interview rate, against 4.13% for summaries with no digits, a 1.75x rate. The comparison is an association, not a measured causal effect. The groups hold 1,018 and 2,250 resumes.

Recorded Degree Differences Varied by Target Field: Across all fields combined, bachelor's resumes had a 6.66% recorded interview rate, compared with 5.31% for master's and MBA resumes. In software and IT, master's resumes had a 9.04% rate, compared with 6.31% for bachelor's resumes. All groups sit inside the 13,037-resume Q2 group.

The 30-Bullet Ceiling: Among resumes with six or more achievement bullets, the recorded interview rate rose from 4.98% at 6 to 10 bullets to 7.03% at 21 to 30, then fell to 4.59% above 30. The lower-count groups do not follow the same pattern. The 21-to-30 group holds 3,373 resumes; the 30-plus group holds 2,463.

Career Gaps Were Not an Automatic Penalty: Four of five career-gap groups had recorded interview rates above the 5.14% employed baseline. The exception was six to twelve months at 4.59%, and rates recovered to 5.91% at one to two years. The analysis covers 54,007 applied tailored resumes.

The AI Line Nearly Tripled: 29.3% of tailored resumes listed an AI skill, up from 11.0% in Q4 2024. The corresponding share was 13.4% among saved jobs; because the units differ, this is not a supply-demand ratio. Applications linked to resumes listing AI skills had a 6.76% recorded interview rate, against 5.74% without. The Q2 base is 32,082 tailored resumes.

The Bachelor's Requirement Keeps Eroding: 29.4% of saved jobs required a bachelor's degree, down from 36.9% in Q4 2024, while 66% stated no degree requirement. Applications to bachelor's-required jobs had a 4.33% recorded interview rate, against 6.30% for jobs with no stated requirement. The Q2 base is 179,363 saved jobs.

How We Gathered This Data

It is important to understand who and what sits behind the numbers. In this report, a job is a posting a user saved to Huntr, and an application is a saved job the user marked applied. Most headline metrics focus on Q2 2026, April 1 through June 30. Quarter-over-quarter trend lines extend back through 2025. The job-site responsiveness and career-gap charts use a trailing twelve-month window, July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, for larger samples. Jobs are grouped by the date saved, in UTC. We pulled the data on August 7, 2026, about five weeks after the quarter closed; the pause gives late-June applications time to record interviews and offers, and users may still update outcomes after the pull. Data streams include platform activity and a separate event-log analysis. We did not field a survey this quarter. All data in this report should be seen as trends within our specific Huntr user base.

Data for Job Search Insights

Counts and event-log timelines use different units. The headline count is 102,777 jobs saved during Q2 and marked applied by the August 7 data pull; 5,388 users logged at least one of those applications. Timeline medians come from a separate event-log analysis. In that analysis, search start is the first saved job in the tracked search, and each outcome median includes only searches where the user recorded that outcome; ongoing searches and searches without the relevant recorded outcome are excluded. Data for Job Search Sites

When a user saves a posting, Huntr captures the source URL. The trailing twelve-month window contains 1,002,278 saved jobs, of which 601,815 are applications. We group sources by root domain to rank boards such as LinkedIn and Indeed and identify ATS domains. Site interview rates use applications as the denominator and count only those with hasBeenInterviewed=1 in the numerator; offer or hire flags without an interview flag are not counted. Rates are per application, not per person or unique vacancy. Root-domain attribution captures stand-alone boards cleanly but under-represents ATS platforms embedded in company-owned URLs. A Greenhouse job served at careers.acme.com is attributed to Acme rather than Greenhouse, so site-level shares may understate embedded ATS reach. See the corresponding analysis below.

Several charts draw on structured fields extracted from each saved posting: named skills, minimum degree, and advertised salary range. Skill and degree findings describe what postings say, not what hiring managers privately accept. A posting or resume counts as naming an AI skill when an extracted skill matches Huntr's fixed list of AI terms, including AI, machine learning, generative AI, LLMs, prompt engineering, and related terms. Resume share and job share use different units, so their percentages are descriptive and are not direct measures of labor supply and demand. Salary trend figures include jobs with a US-dollar yearly range where both ends are above zero, grouped by the quarter saved; we report exact medians for the bottom and top of range. Occupation skill-mix comparisons use normalized job titles with high volume in two six-month windows, Q4 2024 through Q1 2025 and the first half of 2026. Skill extraction runs in quarterly batches, so quarter-to-quarter skill counts can shift with the pipeline as well as the market.

Data for Resume Insights

From 32,082 job-linked tailored resumes created in Q2 2026, we extracted structured fields including sections used, bullet counts, character lengths, work history, education, and certifications. Outcome charts use the 13,037 tailored resumes linked to an application; 784 of those were also marked interviewed by the August 7 data pull. Each chart splits that cohort by one resume feature at a time. Other applicant, resume, and job characteristics are not controlled. See the corresponding analysis below.

Dataset Composition and Coverage

The Q2 2026 cohort contains 179,363 saved jobs. Field coverage varies, and each chart's denominator reflects it: 102,777 jobs (57.3%) are marked applied, 49,534 (27.6%) disclose a salary, 126,432 (70.5%) carry a source domain, 94,042 (52.4%) carry a company industry, and 61,755 (34.4%) carry a country.

Geographic Representation

Among the 61,755 Q2 jobs with a country, North America holds 60.0%, with the United States alone at 51.2% and Canada at 8.3%. Europe holds 22.7% across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and others. Latin America and the Caribbean hold 11.9%, led by Colombia and Brazil.

Implication: Hiring and pay insights are most reliable for the US and Canada. European and Latin American users form meaningful minorities, but findings should not be read as global.

Industry and Job-Function Mix

Among the 94,042 Q2 jobs with an industry label, Internet Software & Services holds 33.3%, Professional Services 17.8%, Diversified Financial Services 4.9%, and Health Care Providers & Services and Media 4.5% each. Job titles show the same tech tilt: Software Engineer alone accounts for 5.0% of all Q2 saved jobs, followed by Product Designer (2.7%), Product Manager (1.7%), Data Analyst (1.5%), and Project Manager (1.3%).

Implication: Trend signals are strongest for tech and adjacent professional hiring; other fields should read the data as directional.

Experience-Level Distribution in Resumes

Of the 48,351 resumes created in Q2, 14,989 state a target experience level. Among those, entry level holds 40.6%, senior 36.4%, and mid-level 23.0%.

Implication: Resume behaviors such as length and section usage tilt toward early-career norms, with a large senior block as well.

Salary-Data Coverage

27.6% of Q2 saved jobs disclose salary information. The salary trend figures use the stricter cut of 35,104 jobs with a US-dollar yearly range where both ends are above zero: the median bottom of range is $112,000 and the median top is $157,000.

Implication: Pay figures describe advertised US-dollar yearly ranges among disclosing employers, not realized pay.

These are saved jobs, not deduplicated vacancies, and that unit is deliberate: this report describes the jobs Huntr users encounter and save, so a posting saved by many users counts once per save and acts as an exposure weight. Where the question is the market of distinct vacancies instead, counts run lower; the quarter's 179,363 saved jobs cover roughly 136,000 unique title-and-company combinations. Popular listings and highly active users carry more weight throughout. Read every finding as a description of what Huntr's users chase, a mix that skews toward North American, technology, professional, and remote-friendly roles, not as a reading of the full labor market.

All insights are based on anonymized activity from Huntr's platform. Employer and platform references describe aggregate patterns in this user base and are not endorsements or critiques. Saved jobs are not deduplicated vacancies, users self-select into Huntr, and interview, offer, and hire flags are self-reported and likely incomplete. Unless a chart states otherwise, rates are per application or per applied tailored resume within the stated window and are unadjusted for other characteristics. Treat comparisons as descriptive associations, not causal estimates.

Time to First Offer

The Spike Breaks: Time to First Offer Falls to 82 Days

The median time from search start to first offer fell to 82 days in Q2 2026, down from 108 days in Q1 2026, and back near the 83 days we measured in Q4 2025. That is the first quarterly decline since we began tracking this number.

Last quarter we wrote that early April data showed the median pulling back toward 86 days and that the Q1 spike might prove temporary. It did. The full-quarter number landed at 82.

Individual Job Timeline

First Interviews Arrived Sooner Than First Offers

For job seekers who land an interview, the wait from application to that first conversation runs about 6 days in Q2 2026, unchanged from Q1. The wait from interview to offer runs about 10 days, down from 12. Once an application turns into a conversation, the recorded stages move quickly. The slow part of the search remains everything before that first conversation.

Time to First Interview

The Interview Gate Reopened a Crack

The median time from search start to first interview fell to 23 days in Q2 2026, down from 29 in Q1 and 28 in Q4 2025. That reverses two quarters of slowdown, though it has not returned to the 21-day pace of mid 2025.

The practical advice has not changed. Tighten your target job opportunities, tailor every application, and treat the first 30 days as the period when momentum compounds.

Number of Applications

Higher-Volume User Groups Had Lower Per-Application Rates

Among users who sent at least 11 applications in Q2 2026, recorded interview rate per application was 8.12% in the 11-to-20 group, 6.48% at 21 to 50, 4.83% at 51 to 100, and 2.86% at 100 or more. The groups hold 718, 763, 295, and 149 users, who logged 10,585, 24,427, 20,749, and 35,163 applications.

The 2.8x ratio does not show the effect of sending fewer applications. Users who land interviews early often stop applying, which lowers their recorded volume.

Applications Created Before Offer Received

Among Recipients With 11+ Logged Applications, Three in Five Logged 50 or Fewer

For Huntr users who landed their first offer between July 2025 and June 2026, and who logged at least 11 applications before that offer, 26.00% got there in 11 to 20 applications. Another 16.15% needed 21 to 30. 19.05% needed 31 to 50. 22.07% needed 51 to 100. 16.73% needed more than 100.

Among 1,554 recorded first-offer recipients who logged at least 11 applications before the offer, 61.2% logged 50 or fewer applications and 16.73% logged more than 100. This count includes only users with a recorded offer and at least 11 logged applications.

This chart uses July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, which yields 1,554 first-offer recipients with at least 11 logged applications. Not everyone logs outcomes.

Repeat Applications at One Company

Per-Application Yield Was Lower in Higher-Repeat Groups

In Huntr support conversations, some recruiters have said that many applications from one candidate to the same company can signal weak targeting. The Q2 data shows a descriptive decline in per-application recorded interview rate across higher-repeat user-company groups.

A user who applies once at a given company in Q2 2026 interviews at 6.14% per application. At two or three applications the per-application rate was 4.01%. At four to seven it was 2.86%. At eight or more it was 1.85%, less than a third of the single-application rate. We group applications by exact company name, and these are rates per application, not the measured effect of sending one more application. The groups hold 82,625, 14,216, 3,596, and 2,266 applications.

As practical advice, prioritize the role that fits best; if you apply to the same company again, target a genuinely different role or team and submit a fresh application.

Job Search Sites

Google-Sourced Applications Had 2.4x LinkedIn's Interview Rate

Google Jobs aggregates listings and often routes applicants to an employer or job board application page. Among 1,630 applications sourced through google.com in the trailing twelve months, 7.91% were marked interviewed. That is 2.4 times linkedin.com's rate of 3.36% and the highest rate among sources on this chart. Here is how to use Google as a job board.

Several specialized or regional sources in this cut had higher recorded interview rates than LinkedIn: Seek (5.24%), Wellfound (5.20%), Welcome to the Jungle (4.70%), and Computrabajo (3.63%). Handshake (3.32%) and Indeed (3.27%) were just below LinkedIn's 3.36%. These are unadjusted source-level comparisons, not estimates of a board's causal effect.

Among saves attributed to a classified job board or aggregator, LinkedIn accounts for 76%, more than every other classified source combined. Its recorded interview rate was below five of the eighteen sites that cleared the 1,000-application threshold. The twelve-month window holds 601,815 applications.

Greenhouse's Share of Huntr's Captured ATS Mix Fell

Among applications whose source was identified as an ATS domain, Huntr's captured mix in Q2 2026 compared with Q2 2025 was:

Greenhouse remained the largest identified ATS domain in Huntr's captured applications, but its share fell from 28.10% to 22.94%. Workday rose from 16.02% to 19.75%, Ashby from 13.70% to 16.49%, and SmartRecruiters (2.51%) and Rippling (2.09%) gained from smaller bases. Lever fell from 8.86% to 5.95% and Workable from 5.57% to 3.37%. These figures describe Huntr's captured application mix, not global ATS market share. Huntr's identified ATS mix covers 17,280 applications in Q2 2026 and 53,046 in Q2 2025.

The top three identified ATS domains, Greenhouse, Workday, and Ashby, accounted for 59.18% of Huntr's captured ATS-routed applications, up from 57.82% a year earlier. The observed mix became slightly more concentrated at the top; this dataset does not establish consolidation in the overall ATS market.

This dataset shows which ATS domains appear in Huntr's captured applications; it does not test resume parsing, knockout rules, ranking algorithms, or screening quality. Recorded Interview Rates by Application Route

Employer Career Sites Had 1.7x the Interview Rate of Job Boards

Group Q2 applications by the route they took and the pattern from our job board ranking shows up again. Applications through job boards and aggregators were marked interviewed 3.82% of the time. Applications through an applicant tracking system domain such as Workday or iCIMS ran at 5.29%. Applications through an employer's own career site ran at 6.42%.

Each step closer to the employer came with a higher rate; employer career sites ran at 1.7 times the board rate. These are descriptive rates, not route effects: the routes may differ in applicant intent, role fit, and application effort. We count a career-site application when the source domain is not a known board or ATS platform and the URL looks like a careers page, with markers such as /careers, jobs., or apply. The cut covers 80,719 Q2 applications: 52,322 through boards and aggregators, 17,625 through ATS domains, and 10,772 through employer career sites. This cut uses a broader ATS list than the share chart above, so the two ATS counts differ slightly.

Remote-Only Jobs Had the Lowest Interview Rate

Hybrid Jobs Led This Q2 Cut; Remote-Only Ranked Last

In Q2 2026, 6.07% of hybrid-only applications were marked interviewed, compared with 5.86% of onsite-only and 3.53% of remote-only applications. The remote-only rate was 42% below the hybrid rate. The cut covers 10,599 hybrid-only, 14,850 onsite-only, and 20,466 remote-only applications.

Remote openings draw more applicants per vacancy, and Huntr does not observe per-vacancy applicant volume, so competition alone could produce this gap.

Jobs That Disclosed Salary Had a Lower Interview Rate

The Salary Transparency Gap Persists

In Q2 2026, 4.38% of applications to jobs with a disclosed salary range were marked interviewed, compared with 6.21% of applications without a disclosed range. Q1 showed a similar gap, 4.47% against 6.42%. The comparison covers 32,658 disclosing and 70,119 nondisclosing applications.

Pay-transparency laws in California, Washington, New York, Colorado, and other jurisdictions require covered employers to publish ranges in specified circumstances; requirements differ by jurisdiction. Disclosed and undisclosed jobs also differ by location, industry, seniority, and other factors. Huntr does not observe applicant volume per vacancy. The repeated association does not establish that disclosure causes the lower recorded interview rate.

Posted Salary Ranges

The Advertised Pay Range Climbed 12% in Eighteen Months

Among saved jobs with salaryCurrency='USD', salaryInterval='year', and positive lower and upper bounds, the exact median range was $100,000-$140,000 in Q4 2024 and $112,000-$157,000 in Q2 2026. That is about a 12% increase at each end over eighteen months. The Q2 calculation uses 35,104 jobs. These values describe the mix of salary-disclosing jobs saved by Huntr users, not an estimate of wage growth for a fixed set of occupations.

These figures are the price tag on the jobs Huntr users chase, not a national wage index. Our users skew toward tech, professional, and remote-friendly roles, and the mix of what they save shifts over time. But within that mix, the direction has been steady.

One more cut worth knowing before you filter by pay. Recorded interview rates across advertised salary bands were 4.67% below $75,000, 3.84% to 4.36% across the middle bands, and 3.17% at $250,000 or more. Jobs are assigned to bands by the advertised top of range, among Q2 applications with a shared US-dollar yearly salary; the middle bands run $75,000 to $125,000, $125,000 to $175,000, and $175,000 to $250,000. Apply if the role fits. The cut covers 22,994 applications.

The Skills Employers Ask For

Communication Appeared Four Times as Often as Python

Strip out the AI story and the most-requested skill in Q2 2026 postings is still communication. Some form of it appears in 40% of all postings, four times the reach of Python, the most-requested hard skill. Project management, problem-solving, collaboration, and data analysis round out the leaders. The Q2 base is 179,363 saved jobs; communication appears in 71,827 of them.

The fastest climbers say more than the leaders. Among skills named in at least 800 postings this quarter, the biggest year-over-year gains as a share of postings: executive communication (6.0x), AI tools (4.4x), cross-functional leadership (4.2x), performance management (2.7x), and stakeholder management (1.9x). Leadership skills now appear in 10.9% of postings, up from 7.7% a year ago. Stakeholder skills nearly doubled, from 3.5% to 6.2%. Shares compare Q2 2026's 179,363 saved jobs with Q2 2025's 428,678.

Put the two trends side by side: as AI spreads through job descriptions, mentions of the human skills around it climb too. We did not test whether the same employers or postings ask for both. For your resume the advice is safe either way: pair the tools you use with the judgment, communication, and leadership you bring to them.

AI and the Job Market

AI now shows up on both sides of this dataset: in the skills employers list on saved jobs and in the skills job seekers put on tailored resumes. This section gathers those findings in one place. Two cautions before the charts. These are jobs saved by Huntr users, not a census of all vacancies, so they cannot measure economy-wide displacement. And the resume and job shares use different units, so they are not a supply-demand ratio.

AI Skills in Job Postings

AI-Skill Mentions Doubled. Advertised Pay Was Higher. Recorded Interview Rates Were Lower.

13.4% of jobs saved in Q2 2026 name at least one AI skill, up from 10.4% in Q1 and 6.8% in Q4 2024. The share doubled in eighteen months, and the Q2 increase was the largest in this series. "AI tools" was the fastest-growing named skill in this extracted-skills dataset, up 4.4x year over year as a share of saved jobs. Machine learning, generative AI, prompt engineering, and AI agents also increased. The Q2 base is 179,363 saved jobs.

Among jobs with an advertised US-dollar yearly range, the median top of range was $190,000 for AI-skill jobs and $145,500 for other jobs (8,139 AI-skill jobs with salary data). The same descriptive gap appeared within information-technology companies, $200,000 against $168,000, and outside IT, $182,500 against $140,000. These comparisons do not show that adding an AI requirement causes higher pay.

Among Q2 applications, those to AI-skill jobs were marked interviewed at 4.97% (15,361 applications), compared with 5.74% for jobs without an AI-skill mention. The gap narrowed but remained within the industry cuts we checked.

The practical read: in this dataset, AI-skill jobs advertised higher pay and had a lower recorded interview rate. That does not establish that AI caused either result or that every AI role is harder to win. If the work matches your experience, apply with a tailored resume and evidence, not adjectives.

AI Skills on the Resume

AI Skills Appeared in 29.3% of Tailored Resumes

29.3% of tailored resumes built on Huntr in Q2 2026 list at least one AI skill, up from 25.6% in Q1 and 11.0% in Q4 2024. In a separate unit of analysis, 13.4% of saved jobs name an AI skill. The two shares describe different populations, resumes created and jobs saved, so their ratio should not be read as labor supply divided by employer demand. The Q2 base is 32,082 tailored resumes.

Within the Q2 tailored-resume group, 239 of 3,535 applied resumes listing an AI skill were linked to a recorded interview, 6.76%, compared with 545 of 9,502 without an AI skill, 5.74%. On non-AI jobs, the corresponding rates were 6.74% and 5.55%. The observed ratio is about 1.2x in both cuts. These comparisons do not isolate the effect of adding an AI skill to a resume.

If you use AI tools at work, name them and attach an outcome: the workflow you automated, the hours you saved, or the output you shipped. As the share of tailored resumes with an AI line approaches one in three, a bare "AI" in the skills section is less likely to differentiate than specific evidence.

How Requested Skills Are Shifting Inside Occupations

AI Tools Entered the Top-25 Requested Skills for Product Design Roles

We compared the 25 most frequently requested skills for high-volume normalized job titles across two six-month windows, Q4 2024 through Q1 2025 and the first half of 2026. AI tools entered the top 25 for Product Designer and Senior Product Designer. The skill appeared in 0.2% of Product Designer postings in the earlier window and 11.6% in the first half of 2026, and moved from 0.1% to 11.6% for Senior Product Designer. Data Engineer postings gained dbt, Airflow, CI/CD, and data quality while Hadoop dropped out. Debugging and data structures entered the top 25 for Software Engineer. The windows hold 19,699 and 4,466 Product Designer postings, and 10,376 and 2,224 for the senior title.

Resume Success Factors

A successful resume is one that has led to an interview, as recorded by users in our job tracker system. The true interview rate is almost certainly underreported, since many users either stop updating their tracker after a certain point or miss some roles. However, the trends across Q2 2026's tailored resumes surface clear patterns.

The broad story holds from Q1: interviewed resumes tend to be detailed and specific about numbers and outcomes. But two Q1 patterns broke this quarter. The advanced-degree edge disappeared, and bullet counts past 30 stopped paying. Both are covered below.

The sections below split the cohort by one feature at a time. Other characteristics are not controlled, so read each chart as a description, not an adjusted effect.

*A note on reading the charts in this section: baselines differ across charts because the groups of resumes differ. The tailored versus untailored chart uses applications saved from October 2024 through June 2026; its tailored baseline is 5.71%. The career-gap chart uses the twelve-month group described in its section, the bullet-opener chart uses a first-half-2026 interviewed group described in its section, and the keyword-coverage charts use the Q2 subset linked to jobs with at least five extracted skills. Every other chart uses the Q2 2026 tailored group (13,037 applied tailored resumes) and baselines sit closer to 6.0%.

Tailored Versus Untailored Resumes

Applications With a Tailored Resume Had a 1.85x Higher Recorded Interview Rate

Across 1,994,555 applications saved from October 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026, 5.71% of applications with a tailored resume were marked interviewed, compared with 3.09% without one. The comparison covers 101,501 tailored and 1,893,054 untailored applications.

This chart compares people as much as resumes. When we hold the person constant and compare their tailored applications against their untailored ones inside the same window, the gap narrows sharply.

What "tailored" means in Huntr: the user opened the resume tailor, fed in the job description, and let Huntr rewrite the summary, the bullets, and the skills against the posting.

What "untailored" means: the user applied with their base resume, or with a version they edited manually outside the tailoring tool.

Matching the Job Description's Keywords

Moderate Keyword Coverage Had the Highest Rates; Maximal Coverage Did Not

Tailoring usually means working the posting's language into the resume, so we measured it directly. For each Q2 applied tailored resume, we counted how many of the linked job's extracted skills appear anywhere in the resume: the skills section, the summary, achievement bullets, or job titles. Among the 12,120 resumes linked to jobs with at least five extracted skills, the median resume covered 33.3% of the job's keywords, and the overall recorded interview rate was 5.81%.

Recorded interview rates rose through the middle coverage bands, then fell. Resumes covering under 20% of the job's keywords had a 5.38% recorded interview rate. Rates rose to 6.22% at 20 to 39% coverage and peaked at 6.30% at 40 to 59%. Above that, they fell: 4.40% at 60 to 79% coverage and 4.95% at 80% or more. The resumes with the most keyword coverage did not have the highest rates this quarter.

Q1 showed the same mid-coverage peak, with 7.18% at 40 to 59% coverage, but the two quarters disagree at the top. Q1's 80-to-100% band recorded 8.33% and Q2's recorded 4.95%, and both rest on fewer than 300 resumes, so the top band is small and unstable rather than reliably good or bad. The middle of the curve is the stable part of this result. The shape also holds when we restrict the comparison to jobs with 5 to 15 extracted skills, so it is not an artifact of long skill lists being harder to cover. The Q1 comparison covers 13,953 resumes.

Work the keywords you can honestly claim into your skills section, summary, and bullets; the middle of this curve is where most interviewed resumes sit. Chasing every keyword in the posting is not associated with better outcomes in this data.

*Method: keyword coverage is the share of the linked job's extracted skills that appear, as a case-insensitive match, anywhere in the resume's skill names, summary, work-experience bullets, or job titles. The comparison includes applied tailored resumes linked to jobs with at least five extracted skills (12,120 of the 13,037 in the Q2 cohort).

Resume Summary

A Dollar Figure in the Summary Was Associated With a 1.75x Rate Ratio

Among users with at least 10 applications logged in Q2 (jobs saved in the quarter and marked applied), resumes whose summary included a dollar amount had a 7.24% recorded interview rate. Resumes whose summary had no digits had a 4.13% rate. The 3.11 percentage-point gap is a 1.75x unadjusted rate ratio. Q1 showed a 1.46x ratio. The groups hold 1,018 and 2,250 resumes.

The advice stays the same. If your summary names a dollar figure you closed, saved, generated, or managed, you give a recruiter something concrete to grab onto in the first three lines.

Resume Length by Page Count

The Page-Count Rules Flipped This Quarter

The direction of the page-count association changed from Q1. In Q2, early-career resumes had recorded interview rates of 9.25% for one page and 6.94% for two or more; mid-career resumes had 2.81% and 5.83%, respectively; senior resumes were nearly identical at 6.20% and 6.21%. The one-page samples were small this quarter.

Two quarters, two different answers, and that is itself the finding. Page count is a weak signal next to what fills the pages. The rule that survives both quarters: match length to substance. Do not compress real work to hit one page, and do not pad thin experience to reach two.

A note on the sample: most tailored resumes now run past one page. The one-page cohorts this quarter are small (173 early, 462 mid, 129 senior).

Education Section

Recorded Degree Differences Varied by Target Field

Across all fields combined, bachelor's resumes had a 6.66% recorded interview rate, compared with 5.31% for master's and MBA resumes. In software and IT, master's resumes had a 9.04% rate, compared with 6.31% for bachelor's resumes. Doctorates recorded 6.42% across all fields; associate degrees recorded 2.97% on a sample of 303 resumes.

The displayed results support a field-specific interpretation: degree differences vary with the type of role targeted. They do not test whether longer education sections, coursework, research, honors, thesis topics, or dates improve interview outcomes.

Degree Requirements in Job Postings

Two Thirds of Jobs Stated No Degree Requirement

In Q2 2026, 29.4% of saved jobs required a bachelor's degree, down from 36.9% in Q4 2024. Q1 was 28.9%, so the series ticked up this quarter while remaining 7.5 percentage points below late 2024. In Q2, 66% of saved jobs stated no degree requirement. The Q2 base is 179,363 saved jobs.

Year-over-year shares requiring a degree were lower in each displayed sector: information technology moved from 30.4% to 29.3%, industrials from 37.8% to 35.4%, financials from 39.9% to 37.5%, consumer discretionary from 34.8% to 33.1%, and health care from 42.8% to 42.5%. These figures describe the sector mix of saved jobs with extracted degree fields.

Among Q2 applications, 4.33% of those to jobs requiring a bachelor's degree were marked interviewed, compared with 6.30% of applications to jobs with no stated degree requirement.

The practical read for applicants without a degree: do not self-select out when the posting does not ask for one. In this Q2 sample of saved jobs, 66% stated no degree requirement and another 8.4% explicitly accepted experience in place of a degree. Those figures describe posting text; employers' unstated preferences are not observed.

Certification Section

Certifications Stay Flat

Recorded interview rate was 5.88% with zero certifications, 5.46% with one, 5.69% with two, and 6.92% with three or more. More certifications did not mean steadily higher rates, and the analysis does not isolate the effect or relevance of certifications. The groups hold 8,847, 659, 1,336, and 2,195 resumes.

Choose credentials for role relevance, not to increase a raw count.

Achievements

Among Resumes With 6+ Bullets, 21 to 30 Had the Highest Rate

Among resumes with at least six achievement bullets, recorded interview rates were 4.98% at 6 to 10 bullets, 6.08% at 11 to 20, 7.03% at 21 to 30, and 4.59% above 30. The 21-to-30 group was highest only within this 6-plus subset. The 30-plus group had led in Q1 at 8.57%. The displayed groups hold 1,145, 5,513, 3,373, and 2,463 resumes.

One wrinkle to be straight about: the small group of resumes with five or fewer bullets (543 this quarter) interviewed at 7.7%, above the 21-to-30 group. Bullet count is a weak signal at the low end. The pattern that holds runs from six bullets up.

Across Q1 and Q2, the 21-to-30 group was relatively high while the 30-plus group was volatile, moving from first to last. Our writing guidance remains three to five substantive bullets per role at roughly 150 to 200 characters, but that guidance is not a causal finding from this chart. The data does not measure readability, and applicants should not add or remove bullets solely to reach a bucket.

Work Experience

Experience-Group Rates Formed a U-Shape

Recorded interview rates by work-experience group formed a U-shape in Q2: 7.41% at 0 to 1 years, 4.29% at 2 to 4, 6.29% at 5 to 9, 5.98% at 10 to 19, and 7.24% at 20 or more. These unadjusted groups differ in occupation, seniority, job choice, and other characteristics. The cut splits the 13,037-resume Q2 group.

The 2-to-4-year group had the lowest recorded interview rate in this cut. If you sit in this band, lead with scope, numbers, and outcomes rather than relying on years alone.

One more note on age. On the applications Huntr users actually sent, the deepest-experience candidates interviewed at close to the top rate for the second quarter running. Years on a resume are a proxy for age, not age itself, and an applicant-side dataset cannot rule out discrimination elsewhere in the market. What our data does show: candidates with 20-plus years of experience are not underperforming in this funnel, though referrals and networks we cannot see may account for part of their rate.

How Achievement Bullets Start

Led, Developed, and Managed Opened the Most Bullets on Interviewed Resumes

We looked at the first word of every work-experience achievement bullet on the 1,736 tailored resumes created in the first half of 2026 that were linked to a job marked applied and interviewed, and that carried at least one bullet: 37,212 bullets in all. The opener is a verb almost without exception. "Led" starts 5.79% of all bullets (2,155 of them), "developed" 5.32%, and "managed" 4.28%. The top six verbs (led, developed, managed, designed, built, implemented) open one bullet in four.

This is shared convention, not a keyword list. Resumes without a recorded interview open their bullets the same way: 18 of these 20 verbs also sit in the top 20 for the 25,943 applied tailored resumes with no recorded interview, and their "led" and "developed" shares (5.62% and 5.29%) nearly match the interviewed group's. The list is useful as a mirror. The weak openers are rare on interviewed resumes: "worked" starts fewer than 1% of bullets and "responsible" fewer still. And if a fifth of your bullets start with "led", the rest of this list is the variety hiring managers are used to reading: what you designed, built, delivered, and what changed because of it.

*Method: we parsed each work-experience achievement list into individual bullets, lowercased each bullet, and took its first alphabetic token, counting hyphenated terms as single words. Shares are per bullet, not per resume, within the first-half-2026 interviewed cohort.

Career-Gap Groups Were Not Consistently Below the Employed Baseline

Career Gaps Were Not Consistently Linked to Lower Interview Rates

A gap in employment is one of the most common sources of anxiety in a job search. In Huntr's data, a gap was not automatically associated with a lower recorded interview rate. Among 54,007 applied tailored resumes created between July 2025 and June 2026 by users with at least five such resumes, the 34,928 resumes listing a current role had a 5.14% recorded interview rate. The 19,079 resumes without a current role had a combined rate of about 5.65%, and most gap groups performed at least as well as the employed group.

The recorded rate was 6.55% when the most recent role had ended less than three months earlier and 5.77% at three to six months. It fell to 4.59% at six to twelve months, then recovered to 5.91% at one to two years and 5.30% after two years. Four of the five gap groups were above the currently employed baseline.

In the finer bands, the decline begins around the fifth or sixth month and holds through the end of the first year: 4.58% at six to nine months and 4.65% at nine to twelve. It does not keep worsening as the gap grows. Rates rebounded to 5.81% at twelve to eighteen months and 6.22% at eighteen to twenty-four months. If longer gaps produced a steadily growing penalty, rates should keep falling as the gap lengthens. They did not.

The six-to-twelve-month dip is concentrated: the ten most active users in that bucket account for 43.7% of its resumes, and when every user is weighted equally instead of every resume, every gap group sits at or above the employed group. Gap groups are measured in days from the most recent listed role's end date: under 90 days, 90 to 179, 180 to 364, 365 to 729, and 730 or more. The eligibility rule yields 54,983 applied tailored resumes; 976 of them list neither a current role nor a valid end date for a past role, cannot be assigned a gap group, and are excluded, leaving the 54,007 shown.

The practical takeaway is reassuring: the data does not support treating a career gap as an automatic red flag or a reason to skip a suitable role. Focus on current capability, relevant work, and clear outcomes. If an explanation such as caregiving, education, consulting, or a sabbatical adds useful context, include it briefly. This analysis does not test whether naming the reason changes interview outcomes.

* This chart uses the trailing twelve-month window, July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. It requires at least 5 tailored applied resumes per user and contains 54,007 applied tailored resumes. "Currently employed" means the resume lists at least one role marked current; for other resumes, gap length runs from the latest valid role-end date to the tailored resume's creation date. Users can contribute multiple resumes, and once we account for that, the differences between the six groups are too small to call reliable. Deduplicating multiple resumes linked to the same job does not remove the six-to-twelve-month dip. The analysis does not establish that time since the last role caused the observed differences.
