The Rehabilitation Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Mental Health Practitioner - 60% FTE to join their team. The Mental Health Practitioner position is designed to support an NIDILRR-funded clinical trial that compares two telehealth-based treatments for persistent cognitive difficulties after mTBI. The primary responsibilities of this position relate to the delivery and execution of the research study interventions to community-dwelling adults with persistent cognitive difficulties after mTBI.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Treatment Intervention – 70%
• Deliver the manualized study treatment interventions to research participants under the supervision of the study investigators, via approved telehealth modalities
• Ensure fidelity/adherence to the treatment interventions
• Delivery of the intervention requires excellent interpersonal and clinical skills and the ability to deliver psychosocial/behavioral treatment to adults potentially experiencing distress.
• Contribute to manual modifications and discussion of research procedural issues as needed
Support data acquisition, data management, and manuscript preparation – 10%
• Participate in brief participant assessment and data entry related to intervention delivery.
• Adhere to all study procedures and protocols to ensure participant privacy is maintained and study procedures implemented as documented.
• Some opportunities may be available for participation as a co-author on scientific presentations or manuscripts, depending on candidate interest and qualifications.
Interact with study participants in a professional and clinically informed manner, protect participant confidentiality and data security – 5%
Communicate with all study investigators and team members in a responsible and timely manner – 5%
• As needed, assists in the training of other practitioners and directing the work of volunteers.
• Report all adverse events, protocol deviations, and concerns to study investigators and coordinators in a timely manner.
Participate in all required trainings, clinical supervision, and regular team meetings – 5%
Other duties as required to ensure smooth study operations with a high level of integrity – 5%
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • A Master's Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work
OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or Psychology and three years of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care
OR
• Equivalent education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Advanced knowledge and skills associated with the provision of mental health clinical services
• Ability to discern when additional assessment or risk management is necessary to ensure participant safety and well-being
• Knowledge of behavioral interventions for the treatment of post-concussive symptoms
• Advanced writing skills
• Advanced interpersonal communication sills
• Proficiency in navigating video telehealth services to adults
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Outstanding clinical psychology, counseling, or mental health treatment skills
• Ability to provide psychological interventions via telehealth modalities
• Doctoral level training and/or experience in clinical or counseling psychology, or social work preferred
