PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE on our Reference Lab Client Account Services team located at Columbia Center in downtown Seattle.
WORK SCHEDULE 40 hours per week
Day Shift
Hybrid: In-person at the Columbia Tower one to two days per week, and remote for the rest of the days.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in patient accounting ,customer service, or a related office environment, OR equivalent education/experience.
The Patient Account Representative (PAR) 3 is responsible for coordinating a wide range of complex duties that support Laboratory Medicine and impact the patient experience. The person in this role is a liaison between patients and other UW Medicine entities, and will maintain confidentiality of information. Serves as functional expert for department peers and oversees team adherence with established policies and procedures. The PAR will assist in orienting and training new staff.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a high volume of calls in a structured environment working under a set schedule and tight timeframes.
- Provide initial telephone screening for financial assistance and assist patients in completing financial assistance applications.
- Review and respond to written inquiries about laboratory services, insurance information, account status and related billing issues.
- Review and evaluate account status in Xifin billing system for all payments received. Enter payment data in account files using a computer-based accounts receivable program. Set up prepayment and confidential account for patients.
- Contact insurance companies to clarify and resolve payment and coverage issues.
- Generate invoices for laboratory services.
- Oversee filing system for lab request forms, invoice copies and other documents.
- Perform complex banking/financial reconciliation and coordinate posting activities.
- Assist community users on laboratory services and billing policies, insurance information, and alternative options available to them.
