The Department of Biochemistry has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer Assistant to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE This research project will aim to determine how immunological memory develops and how memory cells inherit their cellular identity beyond initial antigen presentation and immune system activation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop and perform laboratory procedures in the execution of specific research projects with human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and mouse stem cells – 40%
• Help with Biochemistry techniques such as protein purifications and in vitro characterization of proteins – 20%
• Work with senior scientists including Principle Investigator to Collect, analyze, and maintain records of research data – 15%
• Lab operations: Maintaining lab supplies, organizing lab records, and reagents for research projects – 15%
• Help with grant writing and publication of research results – 10%
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and less than one year of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Understanding of Biochemistry methods with in vitro enzymatic assay experience.
• Ability to perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, cloning, electrophoresis, western blot, and immunoprecipitations.
• Ability to perform tissue culture techniques for human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and maintain differentiation cultures.
• Ability to perform lenti/retrovirus production and transduction protocols.
• Ability to maintain a sterile environment.
• Experience creating reagants and aliquots.
• Evidence of ability to analyze, present, and write data clearly.
• Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to work as a member of a team.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Ability to work with mouse primary cells.
• Experience genotyping mice.
• Ability to extract DNA from mouse tissue samples.
• Knowledge with flow cytometry and sorting techniques of mouse and human stem cells.
• Knowledge with immunostaining and quantitative morphometric analysis of cell phenotypes.
• Experience with microscopy.
• Knowledge of protein purification techniques.
• Experience working with human stem cells.
• Knowledge and understanding of CRISPR techniques.
• Knowledge of Cas9-gRNA transfection techniques in mice.
• Experience cleaning and maintaining lab equipment.
