PER DIEM, Days Shift, ORTHOTICS-PROSTHETICS PRACTITIONER to work as a member of the rehabilitation team to assess and evaluate patient needs and design and modify prosthetic and orthotic devices.
The Prosthetics Orthotics Practitioner is responsible for providing direct patient care at multiple UW Medicine facilities including the Prosthetic-Orthotic Laboratory at the UW Medical Center, inpatient and outpatient locations at Harborview Medical Center, and inpatient and outpatient locations at UWMC. The duties and responsibilities are divided into three main areas of focus:
1) Patient Care
2) Program Development
3) Supervision
WHAT WILL YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE? Assesses patient needs applying knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology synthesizes and reports assessment verbally and in writing
Designs and modifies prosthetic and orthotic devices to meet patient requirements
Performs fitting and fabrication techniques of prosthetic and orthotic devices
Provides patient and family education in the use and maintenance of prosthetic and orthotic devices
Directs the work of Orthotics/Prosthetics Technicians, students and volunteers
Participates in continuing education activities as required
Provides inservice presentations to staff and students
Maintains inventory and orders materials
Assists with development and implementation of clinical programs participates in interdisciplinary planning
Ability to interpret drawings and specifications; perform ordinary arithmetic
Comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects
Work within precise tolerances; use hand and power tools with skill; work safely
WHAT’S NEEDED?
Graduation from an accredited Prosthetic-Orthotic Practitioner program
AND
Eligible for certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics
OR
Equivalent education/experience.
LICENSE REQUIRED
WA state ORTHOTIST license
