This position reports to the Senior Graphic Designer and will create, conceptualize, design and produce professional publications and other graphic solutions meeting the needs of the Washington Athletic Department, from the point of design and layout through final production.
This role will serve as the lead creative designer for Women’s Basketball, Baseball, & Men’s and Women’s Soccer, while supporting other sports as needed. Work in collaboration with Director of Digital Displays to create in-venue videoboard graphics and graphic templates for lead sports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under general direction from the Senior Graphic Designer the Graphic Designer is responsible for the design, layout and preparation of original artwork for a variety of communication purposes, including print material as well as for web and digital. Projects may include, but are not limited to, posters, promotional giveaways, brochures, ads, emails, and web graphics.
This position will plan, coordinate, and organize multiple projects at once. Create print layouts, designs, and execute artwork for Athletic Department needs including, but not limited to, posters, schedule cards, program shells, trading cards, brochures, fliers, and advertisements.
Execute and design digital graphics related to the athletics website, email campaigns, online ticketing, online banner ads, in-stadium graphics, and social media platforms. Select the most appropriate techniques and output available within the project budget.
Exercise independent judgment in the production of complex graphic design materials from concept to final execution.
Maintain the comprehensive archive system of all previous and current graphic projects, including regular file back-ups on different drives. Serve as a production resource to the Director of Video Production, and the Director of Digital Strategy.
Maintain a professional level of communication with all internal and external stakeholders. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned to achieve the goals and objectives of the department.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
One year of applicable college level training in graphics design, or equivalent art school training and one year of experience as a graphic illustrator, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) or higher on a Mac OS platform. Must be detail-oriented and possess superior organizational skills to coordinate several major printing projects simultaneously. Must be able to work long hours (evenings and weekends) when necessary to meet multiple deadlines.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of one year of previous full-time graphic design experience is strongly preferred. Additional experience in motion graphics, video production, web design, illustration and or photography will be given added consideration but is not required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Power Point and Excel is helpful but not required. Candidates who are sports knowledgeable will be given added consideration, but it is not required.
