The Imoukhuede Laboratory is focused on Biomedical engineering systems biology and women’s health. The Imoukhuede lab pioneers both quantitative biological measurements and computational biological models to delineate signal transduction. This bottom-up systems biology paradigm offers mechanistic insight primarily towards directing vascular signaling and analyzing oxytocin receptor variants with translational implications to cancers and cardiovascular diseases and women’s health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position, Research Scientist/Engineer 4 (E S UAW RSE), is expected to be a leader and an active participant in the laboratory of Professor Princess Imoukhuede in the Department of Bioengineering. The primary responsibilities include the following:
Research Activities: 60%
  • Training research personnel on lab equipment and research methodology, advising researchers on next steps, organizing laboratory activities, including but not limited to laboratory meetings and other laboratory engagements.
  • Collecting experimental data, performing complex analyses of data collected, and writing interpretive reports. Verifying the correctness of the data submitted and making recommendations based on these analyses.
  • Documenting research and preparing and submitting papers based on laboratory research for publication and presentation.
  • Solving practical problems related to difficulties with instruments and equipment or test subjects. Suggesting procedural or technical improvements.
    Research Project Management and Leadership: 40%
  • The position may submit grant proposals and serve as Principal Investigator if pre-approved by the department and school.
  • Performing literature searches for research projects in laboratory.
  • Initiating discussion with the principal investigator at regular intervals, designing research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, carrying out experiments, verification, and management of data.
  • Submitting protocols (e.g., IACUC, IRB, etc.) and maintaining credentialing on all aspects of laboratory safety.
  • Contributing to grant and annual report submissions.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s degree in a related field such as Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering, Materials Science, Biology, Chemistry, and four years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or related engineering field and minimum of two years’ experience and established expertise in the field of systems biology.
  • Experience training and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, postdocs, and research scientists.
  • Record of publication in peer reviewed journals.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent recording keeping skills.
