UW Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for a Digital Marketing Automation Specialist. The Digital Marketing Automation Specialist, working within for University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) within University Advancement, is responsible for building and launching email marketing campaigns using marketing automation software in support of the University of Washington’s mission and marketing and communications goals.
The Digital Marketing Automation Specialist will execute marketing campaigns on behalf of both central and departmental units of the University as well as troubleshoot campaigns and track and report on campaign performance. These campaigns encompass a wide range of topics, from employee engagement to fundraising to student recruitment to event invitations and more.
The Digital Marketing Automation Specialist will also create, modify and assist with maintenance of UW-branded email templates, in partnership with a web developer. And this position will also collaborate with central Advancement Services to establish and reinforce data governance standards, assist with troubleshooting and serve as a subject matter expert for Advancement’s Technology Learning Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Marketing Campaign Production The Digital Marketing Automation Specialist will create, launch and provide performance reports on Email, Event and Engagement programs and support units with varying levels of resources and abilities to successfully use marketing automation software. This includes the ability to set up A/B tests and complex audience logic, as well as troubleshoot technical and HTML code issues (in partnership, respectively, with Advancement’s Information Management team and UMAC’s front-end web developer). The work produced by this position will reflect the priorities and opportunities defined by University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) and industry best practices. This position will use UW data to build targeted lists and engagement streams with the goal of improving and maximizing engagement with the UW’s friends, alumni, donors, employees, current students, prospective students, and other audiences and stakeholders.
Template Oversight UMAC is responsible for providing accessible, UW brand–compliant and CAN-SPAM Act–compliant email and landing page templates for use by units across the University of Washington. The Digital Marketing Automation Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the ongoing upkeep and evolution of these templates (with technical support from UMAC’s front-end web developer) and regularly gathering feedback from unit partners to ensure the widest possible adoption of these templates.
Analytics and Reporting This position will collaborate with the Market Research, Analytics and Insights team to develop email campaign performance reports, conduct A/B tests, learn best practices for digital marketing data analytics, evaluate our audience engagement trends and gain insights to help continuously improve the UW’s digital marketing strategies.
Governance The complexity of the UW’s structure and involvement in marketing and communications creates the need for strict data governance and best practice reinforcement, using standards set by the UW’s marketing automation central governance team. This position will be expected to provide that reinforcement as directed by the Director of Digital Engagement — up to and including approval of outbound email for unit partners.
Additional Duties • Collaborate with Advancement Help Desk staff to troubleshoot root causes of issues, using a support ticket system to track resolutions.
• Help provide extra production support to units experiencing staffing vacancies.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for the Advancement training team, assist with evaluation of training outcomes and make recommendations for amendments to training curricula.

REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related area of study, or related work experience
• Three or more years’ experience in executing digital marketing and/or communications for an organization or brand
• Commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment.
• Basic HTML coding experience, including the ability to successfully troubleshoot broken code
• Experience with marketing automation software
• Experience with A/B testing, analyzing performance metrics and contextualizing results for stakeholders
• Experience with quality assurance review processes and strong attention to detail
• Ability to work successfully with colleagues who have advanced technical skills as well as those who have very little technical aptitude
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED: • Proficiency in using Marketo- A plus, but not required
• Familiarity with Jeto- A plus, but not required

• Ability to work evening and weekend shifts, as necessary.
