The Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine (BBI) is a joint venture between the University of Washington (UW), the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital, made possible by a $50 million gift from the Brotman and Baty Families. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Brotman Baty Institute’s (BBI) mission is to accelerate both the basic sciences of precision medicine and the delivery of benefits to patients. The BBI is at the cutting edge of research into the current COVID-19 pandemic and other infectious and non-communicable diseases. In particular, the BBI plays a central role as part of the Greater
Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network (SCAN) study, a COVID-19 community testing partnership between University of Washington, Brotman Baty Institute, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Public Health - Seattle King County. The BBI is looking to hire a Research Operations Lead I.
This is a part-time (0.75 FTE), professional, overtime-eligible position. All necessary training will be provided. Applicants without all desired qualifications are very welcome to apply.
POSITION PURPOSE The purpose of this position is to lead the execution of a functional area within the BBI logistics team. BBI logistics functions support multiple, simultaneously operating studies, across multiple UW departments and BBI partner organizations, primarily focused on defining virologic and immunologic correlates of epidemiologic protection. Successful candidates for this position will assist and provide input on nearly every stage of study implementation, from conception/design to monitoring study spending and continuous improvement on behalf of study participants. Research Operations Leads will be in charge of the day-to-day and weekly production needs of the various studies the BBI supports. This may include testing, iterating and assembling test-collection materials to be used at collections sites, preparing study materials for shipment and coordinating with carriers or helping solve participant problems directly through our “Participant Communications” team, a centralized “customer service” type function. Most functional leads guide the work of a small team of undergraduate student employees supporting research and logistics operations in pursuit of achieving study aims.
JOB DUTIES Study Design, Participant Contact, and Process Optimization (60%) Improve existing processes and protocols to enroll participants in order to meet study objectives
Work in coordination with team members to execute clinical and research protocols; meet with team members to discuss study
Research protocol issues, determine root cause and implement action items
Coordinate or perform the safe and secure transportation of samples from collection site(s) to laboratory
Inventory Management (20%)
Maintain an up-to-date supply inventory and assist with study site set-up as necessary
Assist with procurement of needed supplies
Understand budget allocated to functional area for study activities
Monitor spending in functional area to ensure costs stay within budget
Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly quality
Data Analytics (10%)
Analyze data collected in the study to actively improve study protocols in order to achieve study aims
Maintain, update and improve tableau dashboards for internal and external stakeholders
Assist in the reporting and maintenance of linelist mechanisms for internal and external customers
Leadership (10%)
Help maintaining a safe working environment for onsite staff
Communicating study objectives, project updates and administrative requirements to team members
Represent the BBI logistics team to external stakeholders
Specific knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job satisfactorily include:
Knowledge of software applications, proficiency using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & Access)
Ability to learn new software programs
Excellent problem-solving skills

Good record keeping skills
Good organization skills, including attention to detail

Able to read English and follow both verbal and written instructions
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in a science, health, business, liberal arts, or related field
One year’s experience with either laboratory research or administrative support.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications
Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain positive attitude in fast-paced settings
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Have a valid driver's license; able to drive to local testing sites.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Public Health or medicine-related field
Prior experience working on human subjects research studies
Prior experience managing hourly staff
Prior experience transporting samples between collection sites and laboratories
Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and REDCap software
Knowledge of scientific discipline and applicable techniques and procedures used in a research lab
Knowledge of patient safety according to the assigned department
