UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers, and research operations around the world. UW-IT partners with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service.
IT Infrastructure provides knowledgeable system design and administration, software engineering, and operational support for academic systems, administrative systems, and research computing. The Computing and Storage team designs, implements, and operates enterprise-level virtual and physical servers, as well as data storage services (storage area networks, network-attached storage, backups, and archiving).
UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior DevOps Engineer. The Senior DevOps Engineer position requires a team-oriented IT professional, experienced in designing, implementing and managing complex Windows applications, systems and infrastructure in a highly available production environment. This position directly supports the research, teaching, and administrative missions of the University.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a production Microsoft .NET environment managing enterprise-class applications, including automated builds, release management, web servers, load-balancing, storage and databases.
Windows systems engineering experience, including extensive hands-on knowledge of Windows Server, IIS and SQL Server in highly available production environments
Hands-on Azure DevOps/TFS operations experience
Experience and knowledge in .NET, C# and PowerShell
Hands-on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL experience and knowledge
Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new technologies
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
Prior developer support and consulting experience is highly desired
Hands-on Azure development experience is highly desired
Familiarity with frontend web development (CSS, Javascript)
Familiarity with C programming and Windows libraries
Familiarity with continuous integration tools, such as Azure DevOps and Azure Pipelines
Familiarity with server configuration and build automation tools
Prior experience in a research university or other academic institution
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Working conditions include typical office environments and university data centers.
Position participates in an on-call rotation and must be able to respond to outages during off-hours.

This is an essential position and is required to report to work remotely when UW suspends operations.
