The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.
The SCCA Pharmacy Team provides extensive pharmaceutical care to inpatient and ambulatory patients. In addition to direct care, pharmacists participate in drug therapy consults, conduct clinical research protocols, provide patient/family/staff education, and precept pharmacy students and residents. SCCA combines the adult and pediatric oncology patient care services of three world-renowned cancer care institutions Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's, and UW Medicine.
The SCCA Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Pharmacy Operations Manager to manage the SCCA Pharmacy Services at the South Lake Union location.
Responsibilities
Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of pharmacy services
- Assist in planning, developing, organizing and evaluating SCCA Pharmacy Services
- Assist in maintaining appropriate computer operations and other automation systems for the pharmacy
- Ensure compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations including USP 797, USP 800, The Joint Commission, and National Patient Safety Goals
- Maintain security systems for the pharmacy's physical plant and computer software
- Ensure that policies and procedures are updated and followed in coordination with the Director of Pharmacy
- Oversee activities related to drug use, control, storage, inventory, and billing
- Participate in quality assurance programs for the inpatient hospital and ambulatory pharmacies
- Maintain effective communication with other persons on the administrative staff of the contracted pharmacy and other hospital departments
- Provide management reports as required by the Director
- Ensure proper control of controlled substances and maintain proper records and inventories
- Serve as a member of committees as assigned
- Assume other responsibilities in the management of the pharmacy department as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy
Financial:
- Assist with the annual budget preparation and maintain continuous statistical reports
- Provide billing information for inquiries from patients, other hospital departments, and third-party payers
- Ensure that patient charges and credits are processed on a timely basis
- Ensure cash handling processes are being followed and transactions reconciled
- Provide supervision for the staff members responsible for addressing billing issues
Personnel:
- Assist in the recruitment and evaluation of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacy Interns as applicable to the SCCA ambulatory pharmacy programs
- Assist with personnel performance reviews and the development and retention of competent personnel in coordination with the Director of Pharmacy
- Ensure pharmacy staff development, new employee orientation, and training in coordination with the Director of Pharmacy
- Ensure appropriate pharmacy staffing
- Ensure accuracy of timesheets and leave records, in coordination with Lead Pharmacists
Educational:
- Coordinate the experience of IPPE and APPE School of Pharmacy graduate students in outpatient pharmacy practice with the Clinical Pharmacy Manager
- Provide lectures for the School of Pharmacy in its graduate and continuing education programs
- Coordinate externship experiences for pharmacy technician students following contract agreements
- Research:
- Participate in collaborative research with the Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health
- Ensure maintenance of records for dispensing of investigational drugs and other drug-related studies
Other Duties:
- Participate in professional pharmacy organizations
- Promote an image of service and goodwill to the patients, public, and hospital staff
- Perform other related tasks as required
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Washington
- 4+ years of pharmacist experience
- Graduate degree in Pharmacy and an ASHP-accredited residency are preferred; may substitute with at least 3 years of experience
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
