Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Manager of Central Services Operations to work in Sterile Processing at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Manager of Central Services Operations provides leadership for the Central Services Departments and all facets of sterile processing and perioperative supply chain functions. This includes the initiation and completion of operational plans that ensure quality while utilizing available resources efficiently and in alignment with Swedish Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Service customers include, but are not limited to, Surgical Services, Labor and Delivery, Gastro and Special Procedures Unit, hospital clinics and departments, and other outside customers.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure customer and patient satisfaction through infection control processes, sterility assurance and product availability, each in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Manage the decontamination, processing and sterilization of surgical instrumentation processes, assuring that appropriate practices and methods are maintained according to manufacturer recommendations, departmental policies, and in compliance with standards set by regulatory agencies and professional associations.
  • Establish and maintain quality control systems, including appropriate documentation; measure and report results.
  • Oversee instrument inventory workflow, including maintenance and effective use of associated technology/ computer systems for instruments, tracking and reporting.
  • Evaluate and improve processes associated with the efficient delivery of case carts and associated materials; leveraging technology and feedback to improve customer service and quality.
  • Manage employee utilization, productivity, competence, and morale; ensure staffing is appropriate by monitoring FTE budget numbers and approving vacation time and time off for all employees. Performing all non-Level 1 discipline.
  • Develop highly effective teams, promoting engagement and accountability, and fostering an environment of transparency, trust and consistency.
  • Manage all aspects of departmental fiscal operations including capital and operating budgets, cost containment, initiatives and all others assigned.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Five years of management experience in a sterile processing, in the surgical environment. If a Registered Nurse, must have operating room experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred in related area), In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree the following will be considered: five (5) plus years of recent leadership experience, Central Sterile Processing required (preferably in a large tertiary care setting) and Sterile Processing or Operating Room. Knowledge of Supply Chain preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, computer based instrument tracking system and inventory control, sterilizers, washers etc.
  • Certified Central Service Technician required (CRCST) from IAHCSMM.
  • Knowledge of and ability to differentiate between contaminated, clean and the other phases that render surgical items ready to use.
  • Five (5) plus years’ experience in a tertiary acute care hospital with extensive experience in preparation of reusable instruments and MIS technologies commonly used in surgical and invasive procedure settings.
  • Experience in change management, customer relations, quality improvement, and employee relations. General knowledge and practice in handling human resource matters including experience with or exposure to a union environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of the instrument and patient portable equipment process including decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, equipment and all related standards.
  • Familiar with the scientific literature regarding all the current methodologies for instrument maintenance, sterilization, disinfection and management. Demonstrated working knowledge of surgical instrument and power systems
  • Proficient skills and knowledge of lean process improvement methodologies as they relate to the management of supplies and other Central Services related workflows.
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Must be able to evaluate reports and performance indicators to effectively utilize both human and financial resources to drive continual quality improvement and customer satisfaction.
