What Scientist Resumes That Got Interviews Had in Common
A few patterns repeat across the scientist resumes that reached interviews. They are not about layout or adjectives. They are about technique, rigor, and proof.
- An advanced degree sat in education, not in the headline. A PhD or MSc was common, but it stayed in the education section while validated assays, sequencing work, and publications led the page.
- Wet-lab and dry-lab lived together. Assay development, PCR, and next-generation sequencing sat next to Python, R, and pipeline work, not one or the other.
- Every technique tied to an outcome. Turnaround cut by about a third, analysis time reduced roughly tenfold, measurements validated within about 10 percent. The method was the setup and the number was the point.
- Quality and compliance carried weight. SOPs, QC procedures, GLP alignment, and audit readiness showed up on the resumes that reached genomics and diagnostics interviews.
- The skills section read like the posting. Experimental design, assay validation, the specific instruments, and the analysis stack sat up top, ahead of generic laboratory terms.
