The Commercial Data Support team plays a critical role in providing comprehensive support to users globally. Our core mission is to maintain data accuracy and ensure timely, reliable access for US Market users, enabling informed business decisions. Data managed by the US Market includes information from samples, calls, medications, products, sales, and other sources.

To ensure the integrity and availability of this data, AstraZeneca is seeking professionals with a robust combination of technical expertise and knowledge of commercial processes.

Our commercial data delivery operations are global, with team members located in the US and around the world. As a Data Support Engineer, you will join the SHARP/SFO/O2 support team and be responsible for monitoring tickets, managing service requests, and handling incident and problem management. You will also be responsible for initiating and monitoring datasets to ensure data availability.

Key Responsibilities:

You will deliver on team objectives by providing and supporting data and analytics solutions, either through enterprise services or direct engagement with AstraZeneca functions. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Testing and validating new data, analytics, and DataOps solutions to confirm they are production-ready, including code assurance, unit and integration testing, performance tuning, release management, and support for production processes and service level agreements.
  • Innovating and evaluating new technologies relevant to data and analytics, including proof-of-technology/value assessment and business case development.
  • Contributing to the ongoing evolution of Data Engineering capabilities through training, process improvement, tooling, and enhanced ways of working.
  • Ensuring business data and related assets are made available as data services and artefacts for consumption across AstraZeneca, supporting consistency and strategic alignment.
  • Maintaining up-to-date expertise in data and analytics technologies and methodologies to keep pace with advancements and drive innovation.
  • Providing support for data solutions in business-as-usual scenarios.
  • Building effective relationships with AZ Technology teams, and proactively identifying and addressing opportunities for process improvement and root cause analysis.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience, or 7 years of experience equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable proficiency or eagerness to learn data engineering techniques and DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience in Data Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data pipelines, including ingestion, storage, preparation, discovery, presentation, and user experience.
  • Experience with cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g., SQL, Amazon Redshift, S3, Oracle) and data integration tools (ETL).
  • Analytical abilities to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of data with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in writing queries, scripts, and stored procedures, as well as report generation and data presentation.
  • Experience in data analysis, including investigation, interpretation, and documentation of data structures.
  • Initiative, strong customer orientation, and the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with DevOps or DataOps concepts, including continuous integration and automated environments.
  • Experience with large-scale, complex data environments, and/or consultancy or vendor-related data projects.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud tools and Apache Airflow.
  • Experience with query and ticketing tools such as ServiceNow.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving AI-driven environments.
  • Knowledge of Python and experience building data pipelines using ETL tools.
  • Pharmaceutical experience
