At Instructure, we believe in the power of people to grow and succeed throughout their lives. Our goal is to amplify that power by creating intuitive products that simplify learning and personal development, facilitate meaningful relationships, and inspire people to go further in their education and careers. We do this by giving smart, creative, passionate people opportunities to create awesome. And that's where you come in: Instructure is seeking a collaborative and experienced
Product Manager to champion our shared components and cross-product initiatives across the business. You will shepherd our front-end UX platform along with ensuring cross-product programs tied to privacy, accessibility, and security are successful. In this highly collaborative role, you will own the product roadmaps, working hand-in-hand with engineering teams, UX/UI designers, customers, legal counsel, and compliance officers. You will act as a strategic partner to internal development teams, understanding their needs and empowering them with consistent and accessible front-end components and ensuring our products align to policy and best practices in data management. In short, you enjoy the ability to deliver with an aligned engineering team while also embracing the challenge of achieving success through collaborative efforts.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define and own the product vision, strategy, and roadmaps for our UX platform as well as cross-product compliance and accessibility features; aligning with overall business goals and regulatory requirements, developed in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Compliance Focus: Deeply understand and translate complex privacy (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), accessibility (e.g., WCAG), and security requirements into actionable product specifications and user stories, ensuring these are clearly communicated and understood by internal teams.
- Shared Services Management: Proactively engage with internal development teams to identify, prioritize, and define the development of reusable front-end components, libraries, and patterns that promote consistency, efficiency, and compliance across our products, acting as a key partner in their development workflows.
- Collaboration & Communication: Foster strong working relationships and effectively communicate the product vision, roadmap, and progress to stakeholders across engineering, design, legal, compliance, and executive teams, actively soliciting feedback and incorporating it into the product development process.
- Internal Customer Engagement: Build empathy for our internal development teams, understanding their pain points and needs related to application development and translating these insights into the roadmap. Leverage strong relationships to advocate for best practices and define success through adoption.
- Requirements Definition: Translate business needs and compliance requirements into clear and detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications, ensuring alignment and understanding with engineering and design partners.
- Product Lifecycle Management: Manage the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch, iteration, and retirement, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to compliance standards, with ongoing communication and collaboration with internal teams.
- Performance Monitoring: Define and track key metrics to measure the adoption, performance, and impact of our front-end shared services and compliance initiatives, sharing these insights with internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead and inspire cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment, emphasizing partnership and shared ownership with internal customers.
- Staying Informed: Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes in relevant regulations to proactively adapt our product strategy, sharing relevant information and insights with internal teams.
What You Will Need To Know/Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Product Management or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in product management, ideally with a significant focus on platform services and components.
- Strong understanding of front-end development principles, frameworks (React is a plus), and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience in building and managing shared component libraries or platform solutions, with a track record of successful collaboration with engineering teams.
- Knowledge of and experience with privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG), and security best practices in the context of web applications.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build strong relationships and influence cross-functional teams, particularly engineering and design.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical and legal requirements into clear and concise product specifications, ensuring shared understanding with internal partners.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and iterative development.
