The UW School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Research Coordinator 7 (RC 7) role. POSITION PURPOSE The RC 7 serves as contact with study participants; explain purpose of research study and protocols; answer participants'/family’s questions regarding study protocol; screen prospective participants; extract medical information from clinical records of research participants; review and explain consent forms, questionnaires, and surveys with prospective subjects; development of databases required for research data and analysis.
An essential component of this position is hiring and supervising research study staff. In this position, the RC 7 interviews, hires, trains, and supervises new research study assistants and research study coordinators.
The RC 7 assigns duties and maintains training for all research assistant personnel. Responsible for scheduling research assistants to cover shifts required for subject enrollment. The position will also be responsible for written instructions for laboratory test procedures.
This is a 1.0 FTE and reports to the research nurse supervisor of the trauma clinical studies, with highly matrixed relationships to the principal investigators (PIs) and other research personnel (RSEs, etc.) of the studies.
Our Mission and How This Position Contributes to the Department and the University: The Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center at Harborview Medical Center provides the highest level of comprehensive care for major injuries. The Division of Trauma, Burn, and Critical Care Surgery is based at Harborview Medical Center. The only Level 1 (regional) Trauma Center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, this clinical arm of Harborview - known as Harborview's Level I Adult & Pediatric Trauma Center - cares for emergency surgical and trauma patients and is closely linked to the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center. Working closely with the Plastic Surgery division, Trauma, Burn, and Critical Care Surgery provides highly skilled, emergency, and rehabilitative burn care for victims in the four-state region. By cooperative agreement with Children's Hospital, Harborview is also the region's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Primary Duties are:
• Direct conduct of research studies involving human subjects = 40%
• Supervision and training of research study assistants/research study coordinators = 40%
• Oversee research data management and analysis = 20%
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field
Experience:
• Two years’ relevant research experience with at least one year of supervisory experience
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Progressive responsibility in research coordination, including experience recruiting, consenting, and surveying study participants both in-person and by phone
• Practical knowledge of human subjects’ regulations, protections, and ethics
• Proficient with Epic Hyperspace for study eligibility screening, patient enrollment, and study calendar association
• Experience with research data management (understanding of data security protocols and quality assurance)
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to and work collaboratively with people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and roles within an organization
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong detail orientation, and ability to adeptly manage multiple priorities
• Able to work with limited direction/supervision
• Significant understanding of medical terminology
• Experience using tracking systems to communicate progress and organize tasks
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and adeptness at learning new software
• Proficiency in CTMS OnCore system for patient study association, visit tracking, and billing activities
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience in industry-sponsored research in a medical setting
• Training and/or knowledge in ethical conduct of research with human subjects and IRB requirements
• Demonstrated diplomacy with physicians, colleagues, families, and patients
• Prior experience with enrollment, consent forms and policy/procedures for clinical trials
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT • Occasional irregular hours are required to complete job duties
• This is a primarily onsite position; remote work is only occasionally possible

• The Research Coordinator will maintain open and timely communication between study and clinical teams via a secure messaging application (Microsoft Teams)
