The Department of Emergency Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator to serve as a project manager for a number of clinical trials. The appointee will apply scientific knowledge gained through a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience to coordinate research projects under the guidance of a single Principal Investigator and the Research Operations Manager.
Reporting to Emergency Medicine's Research Operations Manager, the Project Manager will assist with the day-to-day administration of multiple current, new and ongoing studies, which includes screening patients for eligibility, consenting patients to participate, assisting with study protocols, blood processing, data collection and abstraction, and directing the work of other research staff, providing unique patient level experience in the Emergency Department. This role provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in the medical sciences to expand their experience in the field of Emergency Medicine and clinical trials project management. This position will require the appointee to interact extensively with HMC and UWMC Emergency Department staff, including physicians and nurses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Activities - 60%
  • With guidance from the PIs and Research Operation Manager, implement research project procedures that meet research objectives and ensure compliance with all aspects of institutional and federal regulations. This position will be responsible for all aspects of multiple (10+) clinical trials, including patient recruitment and management, study data collection and management, and study administration.
  • Facilitate research study planning and milestone oversight to ensure successful project execution.
  • Design, develop, and implement routine study operations reports, including monthly progress and recruitment reports.
  • Track and manage sponsor reports according to guidelines, drafting necessary documents and progress report materials.
  • Collaborate with investigators and research teams, developing training plans and monitoring enrollment.
  • Participate in research process improvement activities.
  • Complete and manage human subjects' regulatory applications for assigned studies.
  • Coordinate and evaluate the collection of research tools and develop and oversee data collection methods.
  • Perform data quality assurance and monitoring across multiple research sites.
  • Participate in the formulation of research data analysis plans and assist in writing technical reports and manuscripts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required.
    Project Administration – 30%
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously; routinely work under specific timelines or deadlines, with specific timelines or to meet deadlines, and often may require a high degree of prioritization and adaptability.
  • Liaise between investigators, study staff, participant sites, and funders to communicate research objectives and priorities.
  • Demonstrate understanding in research fiscal management and assist with managing project budgets.
  • Under direct supervision of the PI, assist in the coordination of the development, writing, and submission of funding proposals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required.
    Training and Supervision – 10%
  • Train and oversee research staff on data collection and quality.
  • Design and deliver research training and conduct quality assurance monitoring.
  • Create strong morale and spirit on teams, clearly assigning responsibilities and monitoring progress.
  • Foster collaboration among staff and establish a cohesive environment for sharing ideas and needs.
  • Motivate team members and empower them to contribute to project success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned/required.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in health sciences, public health, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience coordinating/managing human subjects research projects in an academic or healthcare-related setting.
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Demonstrated expertise managing large and/or multiple research projects with progressive responsibility in project management.
  • Knowledge of funding agency requirements, human subjects' boards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software programs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong detail orientation.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills and history of success in interacting with diverse individuals.
  • Proficiency in English is required for this role to ensure effective communication with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree (MPH or other relevant master's program).
  • 5+ years of experience with human subjects' research coordination.
  • Research administration experience, including post-award fiscal experience.
  • Multi-site project management experience.
  • Broad understanding of hospital systems and embedding research projects within healthcare settings.
