Campus Safety & Security has an outstanding opportunity for a Campus Security Officer (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv) to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE The University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) Campus Safety and Security department has an outstanding opportunity for a CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICER. This individual will provide public safety services to faculty, staff, students, retail tenants, and visitors on campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Patrol campus; protect personnel and campus property; promote and preserve safety and order; encourage voluntary compliance with state laws and University regulations and enforce traffic violations as necessary; respond to crimes. Respond to medical emergencies, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, accidents occurring on campus; render medical first aid, respond to building fire and intrusion alarms, assist with building evacuations.
Receive and conduct preliminary inquiries into complaints of suspicious behavior, or criminal activity; prepare reports using technology; gather evidence; locate witnesses; protect crime scenes until relieved by proper authorities and appear in court as required.
Operate communications equipment and other software systems; answer telephone inquiries; monitor computer security system; monitor and report facility problems to appropriate services; operate department safety vehicles, perform safety escorts; secure buildings; assist emergency public safety responders that include local law enforcement, fire, and medical services in the event of a crisis, disaster, or emergency.
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School graduation or equivalent; possession of a valid driver’s license; no previous felony convictions; AND two years of full-time college in police science or allied field;
OR
two years of police or campus security experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well with, and be sensitive to, people from diverse backgrounds and people of all ages.
The ability to remain courteous and considerate while working in demanding and stressful situations; a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position is designated as one that performs an essential function. This means that the position's incumbent must continue to report to work as directed if the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions.
