POSITION PURPOSE The Health Education Resources Coordinator 1 (Medical Education Patient Coordinator) will serve as the liaison at a given hospital for the faculty and students for the teaching of the Foundations of Clinical Medicine (FCM) first- and second-year students. The incumbent will also be the liaison with hospital staff and administrators in reserving the meeting rooms and being certain that hospital protocols are followed. The Medical Education Patient Coordinator will also provide various administrative support tasks for the FCM office and Colleges program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Curriculum planning – 50% Coordinate, select and consent patients for students to interview and examine based on students’ knowledge of the applied basic science curriculum being taught.
Plan to identify patients with cardiac problems when the students are in the cardiovascular disease course, etc.
Serve as a liaison between the School of Medicine and the patients.
Provide counseling and debriefing sessions for first year students after patient experiences as needed.
Identification of patients – 30%
Identify patients willing to have students interview them and/or complete physical examinations.
Utilize knowledge of the hospital’s medical records system and other resources for identifying patients (nurses, residents, senior students).
Obtain informed consent (completion of forms) from patients.
Conduct post-interview quality assurance interviews.
Administrative Management and Coordination – 20%
Assist with program logistics including room reservations, equipment reservation and set-up, catering, and parking.
Provide program related communications and correspondence to students, lecturers, panelists, small group facilitators, OSCE observers and College mentors.
Use word processing, graphics, statistical, spreadsheet and data base software.
Perform other related duties as required/assigned including administrative responsibilities and special projects.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A Master’s degree in education, health education or health sciences discipline. Equivalent level experience may be substituted for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of and experience working in a hospital system.
Ability to creatively solve problems and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Counseling, debriefing and/or teaching skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.
Strong computer, organization and communication skills.
Some work experience in the health or medical field.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in education, health education or health sciences discipline or a related field.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
