About the position Put your communication skills and passion for creating community to work as the Marketing & Editorial Manager for UWHR’s Employee Experience team. This role is an integral part of a division working to empower and support the well-being of our 50,000-strong campus employees.
Reporting to the Executive Director for Employee Experience in UWHR, the Marketing & Editorial Manager plays a crucial role in fostering meaningful connections within the UW community and beyond on behalf of the Employee Experience programs: The Whole U, UW Combined Fund Drive, UW WorkLife and employee recognition programs.
Working in collaboration with partners across the UW community, the Employee Experience team endeavors to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where all employees can thrive.
Position duties and responsibilities The Employee Experience Marketing & Editorial Manager is responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive editorial calendar, inclusive of websites, newsletters, podcasts, social media, email, UW Insider and UW Today for all programs in the Employee Experience portfolio. This includes:
· Directing, developing and implementing cohesive, compelling and accurate communications that meet strategic marketing and communications goals.
· Developing story ideas that are relevant, timely and strategically appropriate writing assignments.
· Developing and executing marketing strategies for existing and upcoming programs, promotions and events, including web content, email marketing, social media and other materials.
· Writing, editing and producing compelling content as well as editing the work of other contributors for all channels, including UW Today, UW Insider and UW Insider Calendar and social media across the three programs and inclusive of UW’s campuses and medical centers.
· Managing student interns for the three programs, providing mentorship and holding positions accountable for completing design, writing and editing assignments accurately and on time.
· Actively participating on the Employee Experience leadership team and acting as an employee advocate by understanding the diverse population of UW employees, the role of UWHR within the institution, and the mission and vision of the University.
· Collaborating with University offices including Marketing & Communications, News & Information and UW Medicine’s The Huddle to ensure Employee Experience communications and events are shared broadly.
· Provide event support for in-person and virtual events as assigned.
Requirements · Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, journalism, English, business or related field or equivalent experience.
· At least four years of experience in marketing and communications, with a focus on employee engagement and experience, preferably in an institution of higher education.
Additional requirements · Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with knowledge of AP style preferred.
· Experience in creating content for digital channels, including websites, social media and podcasts.
· Able to create compelling and accurate content that resonates with diverse audiences.
· Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and editorial plans that achieve desired outcomes.
· Experience managing and/or mentoring team members.
· Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
· Ability to manage others to stay within brand and UW style guidelines.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
· Passion for promoting employee engagement and creating a positive and inclusive work environment.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience with WordPress and Trello preferred.
Working conditions The person in this position will work with an open-minded and inclusive team that values diversity, continuous improvement and accountability.
· Hybrid work option of two days on-site with flexibility to vary office and telework days depending on event schedule.
· Cubicle/open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distraction.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule for occasional events scheduled on evenings and weekends.
· Ability to occasionally travel locally to UW locations and campuses.
· May be occasionally required to lift/move up to 20 pounds.
