KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle’s NPR news station. We have an outstanding opportunity for a
part-time, 22 hours/week Graphic Designer (Graphic Designer/Illustrator) .
This role will be instrumental in sharing KUOW’s mission and work through the creation of compelling visuals across multiple channels and mediums, from Instagram posts to printed postcards.
JOB SUCCESS SUMMARY
The ideal candidate is self-motivated and comfortable working independently. They must deliver clean, web- and print-ready designs based on existing style guides and brand guidelines in a fast-paced production environment. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills, web and pre-press expertise, intrinsic design ability, typographic skills, and acute attention to detail. The ability to manage and fulfill multiple projects and communicate with key stakeholders is also essential.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Graphic Design Production (55%)
• Create designs in a variety of programs including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Canva.
• Create print collateral from brand style guide including posters, postcards, merchandise, brochures, one-sheets, experiential pieces, stickers, pins, and books.
• Design and produce social media collateral for KUOW’s Instagram, YouTube and Facebook accounts, including light motion design and cinemograph design.
• Produce daily Instagram posts from news stories, including design, typography, layout, captioning and ADA best practices.
• Develop clean and effective graphic templates for web, live events, and email newsletters.
• Concept, design and template digital ad packages for web, social and display placements.
• Concept, design and iterate original artwork and supplemental digital assets for KUOW programs and podcasts.
Design Collaboration (40%)
• Take direction from multiple team members, field original creative requests and support production work. Provide timely design proofs and revisions and update stakeholders on design project statuses via email, Slack, Monday, and Salesforce.
Other duties as assigned (5%)
• Attend and participate in department and organization meetings and trainings.
• Support internal station initiatives.
• Perform other duties, as assigned by the Marketing Campaign Manager.

SUCCESS PROFILE
Knowledge of:
• A variety of design software and programs including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Canva.
• Standard design file preparation for different applications including largescale outdoor print and high-resolution digital formats.
• Knowledge of best practices for brand visual design and adherence.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Duties may occasionally require evening and weekend work when necessary to meet critical deadlines.
• Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
• Position is suitable/eligible for Hybrid/Occasional Telework.
Requirements include: • One year of applicable college-level training in graphics design, or equivalent art school training
• and one year of experience as a Graphic Illustrator OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
