The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 330 full-time faculty members, 460 courtesy faculty members, and over 350 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $67 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development. Psychiatry is the third largest department in the School of Medicine and the largest non-divisioned department. The overall annual operations funding from all sources is over $130 million.
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for an 80% FTE Project Coordinator.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute (ADAI) is a multidisciplinary research institute in the University of Washington School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. The Institute’s staff of clinical and social psychologists, epidemiologists, public health experts, and information specialists work to improve our understanding and reduce the harm caused by alcohol and drug use. Our mission is to advance research, policy, and practice in order to improve the lives of individuals and communities affected by alcohol and drug use and addiction.
Located at ADAI since 2017, the Northwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Northwest ATTC) is one of ten regional centers comprising SAMHSA’s National ATTC Network. As a federal-funded multi-state workforce systems development project, the Northwest ATTC mission is to strengthen the addiction workforce in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington through educational and consultative services that accelerate the adoption and implementation of useful treatment and recovery practices.
Position complexities include traveling for work and working with a multitude of collaborators. 100% remote eligible position with some travel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establishes priorities for the region and its individual states and carries out annual work plans including coordination of staff and contractors and manages sponsor reporting requirements. (20%)
  • Supervises efforts of the Northwest ATTC Technology Transfer Specialist in the design and delivery of technical assistance activities by staff and contractors.(20%)
  • Serves as the Northwest ATTC lead technical assistance provider to state systems and agencies in the adoption of evidence-based practices and service improvement.(20%)
  • Works in tandem with the Northwest ATTC Technology Transfer Specialist to represent the Northwest ATTC at regional workgroups and consortia.(10%)
  • Supports relationships and manages priority projects with Single-State Authorities in each state and other key regional stakeholders, including Community Advisory Board members.(10%)
  • Works in tandem with the Northwest ATTC Technology Transfer Specialist to maintain an inter-state, multi-disciplinary network of project collaborators, and establishes relationships with other regional training and technical assistance efforts.(5%)
  • Reviews and approves all Northwest ATTC products.(5%)
  • Serves as a member of the national ATTC steering committee and other SAMHSA-based national and regional working groups that develop tools and products to support ATTC network.(5%)
  • Represents Northwest ATTC at regional and state conferences.(5%)
    Lead Responsibilities
  • Lead responsibilities include managing priority projects among diverse stakeholders and representing the Northwest ATTC regionally and nationally.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree in public health, health services, social work, psychology, nursing, or education, OR equivalent experience.
  • Three years of education and/or experience in supervision or professional-level work related to substance use disorder treatment, training, or agency administration. The experience must have included at least two years of clinical training and experience in direct delivery of health services for persons with substance use disorders.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience as an educator, trainer, or organizational consultant in health services for persons with substance use disorder is preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal agency programs, institutional policies and procedures, and familiarity with states and partner institutions.
  • Experience in working with individuals from diverse populations and varied backgrounds.
  • Skills implementing complex projects, consultation and meeting facilitation; oral and written communication, report preparation, and general application of institutional policies and procedures.
