As part of the IT infrastructure organization, our Database and Platform Services team plays a pivotal role in driving this transformation. We provide and support a state-of-the-art, scalable, reliable, resilient, and secure database platform that meets the diverse business needs of our clients.

Who You Are

A dynamic and experienced technical leader to join our leadership team. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving the strategic direction and operational excellence of our Database and Platform Services. You will lead a team of skilled professionals responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our database solutions. Your leadership will be pivotal in driving innovation, optimizing service delivery, ensuring security and compliance, and fostering collaboration across IT infrastructure teams.

Who You Will Work With

Being part of Database and Platform Services, you will work with

• Database Administrator, Site Reliability Engineers, Architects, Software developers, DevOps Engineers, Project Managers within Infrastructure Cloud Services organization
• Collaborate with IT service owners, product owners and development teams
• Partner with multi-functional IT business teams.

What You Will Do

As an Infrastructure organization, we are responsible for providing and supporting state-of-art, scalable, reliable, resilient, and secure database platform to our clients to support their business needs. In your role as a technical leader, your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership

• Provide strategic direction for the Database and Platform Services team aligned with Cisco’s business transformation goals.
• Define and implement best practices, standards, and processes for database technologies and operations

Operational Excellence

• Oversee day-to-day operations of database platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, resilience, and security.
• Drive initiatives to optimize service delivery, performance tuning, and automation of routine tasks.

Team Development and Collaboration

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of database engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., Compute, Network, Applications) to integrate database solutions and support organizational objectives.

Security and Compliance

• Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect data integrity and privacy.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to database management.

Process Automation and Innovation

• Guide the team through the process automation roadmap, leveraging emerging technologies and practices to enhance efficiency and agility.
• Champion innovation in database technologies, exploring new tools and methodologies to drive continuous improvement.

Reporting and Metrics

• Define key operational and security metrics and provide regular updates to senior leadership to support informed decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in database engineering, with a strong focus on operational activities, security/compliance, and ideally software development.
• Proven leadership experience in managing and leading technical teams in a complex, enterprise-level environment.
• Expertise in one or more database technologies such as relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server) and non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Strong understanding of cloud technologies and experience with databases in cloud environments is desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different teams and levels of the organization.
• Strategic thinker with a forward-looking attitude, passionate about driving business outcomes through technology innovation.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of cloud technologies and experience operating databases on public cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with software development practices and agile methodologies.
• Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., Oracle, AWS, Azure) are a plus.
