Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a Manager of Foundation Relations and Prospect Strategy to support the organization’s institutional fundraising program. This position reports to the Senior Director for Foundation Relations and Donor Communications in the Development department of PPFA. The Foundation Relations and Donor Communications team manages many of the organization’s top donors, most of whom give through private foundations.
Purpose: The Manager of Foundation Relations and Prospect Strategy serves as an integral member within the Foundation Relations program with a focus on stewarding the organization’s highest level donors and soliciting prospective institutional donors through strategic communications and outreach – with the aim of deepening relationships, increasing philanthropic support, and expanding the donor base. ● Develop regular and customized correspondence to PPFA’s and PPAF’s top institutional donors to ensure meaningful interactions and touchpoints, including but not limited to detailed program and issue updates, and crisis communications as needed. ● Support the success of organizational and programmatic leadership engagement with high level donors through preparation for meetings and communications, including through the development of briefings, agendas, talking points, and presentations. ● Establish a system for tracking and assessing top donor engagements to ensure regular communications and outreach. ● Lead research to identify, analyze, and track prospective institutional donors with consideration to alignment in respective priorities. ●Develop engagement strategies for and solicit donations from prospective institutional donors, and field incoming inquiries from prospective partners. ● Keep abreast of developments in PPFA’s and PPAF’s priorities and strategies as well as foundation trends and interests in order to identify opportunities for strategic engagement and seize new opportunities for funding. ● Write letters of inquiry, solicitations, reports, and other documents for current and prospective foundation, individual, and corporate supporters, as needed. ● Perform additional development-related activities/efforts, as needed.
Engagement: In addition to working closely with the Senior Director of Foundation Relations and Donor Communications and the Vice President of Philanthropic Communications, the Manager works collaboratively with multiple internal departments and teams to develop and execute on donor engagement strategies. This includes: ● Partnering with members of the Foundation Relations and Philanthropic Communications teams to share programmatic content, organizational updates, talking points, and developments. ● Working with the Office of the President to coordinate and support the President’s involvement in donor outreach, including correspondences and meetings. ● Fostering respectful collaboration with program staff in the strategic and timely development of materials, donor outreach, and donor meetings. ● Regularly liaising with program staff to stay abreast of program goals, priorities and activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): ● At least three years of non-profit fundraising experience, preferably within a national progressive organization. ● Strong writing and communications skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into refined talking points, tailored cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation materials. ● Strong organizational and project management skills – with the ability to manage multiple assignments and quickly change priorities in a fast-paced setting. ● A motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with confidence and effectiveness across a vast array of personalities and levels of influence. ● Ability to synthesize research into action in service of qualifying and disqualifying prospects. ● Strong computer and technology skills that include Google Suite and fundraising databases; experience with Salesforce a plus. ● Commitment to diversity using a personal approach that values all individuals and respects differences in regard to race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability and socio-economic circumstance. ● A deep commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission and understanding of the Sexual and Reproductive Health ecosystem.
Travel: Less than 10 percent $78,000 - $84,000 a year Total offer package to include generous vacation + sick leave + paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k.
