Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seek a curious and solutions-oriented Data and Research Manager. This job reports to the Senior Director, Data, Analytics, and Research in the Organizing, Engagement, and Campaigns (OEC) team of PPFA and is
tied to the 2024 Election Cycle . The Data, Analytics, and Research Team provides strategic, data-driven guidance to OEC and the Policy, Campaigns, and Advocacy division and supports the critical work of the Federation, Action Fund, Votes, and local Planned Parenthood organizations to conduct equitable, efficient, and effective campaigns.
This role is expected to begin in June 2024 and end in December 2024. Purpose: The Data and Research Manager will provide critical additional research, polling, and analysis capacity to the Data, Analytics, and Research Team (DART), including interfacing with affiliate, federation staff, IE programs, and external ballot committees throughout the 2024 cycle and in preparation for 2025-2026 campaigns. This role will also support the development, interpretation, and disbursement of electoral and ballot campaign research. This role will provide clear and user-friendly communication, prompt and thorough analysis, strategic guidance, and best practices to Planned Parenthood staff, affiliates, and ballot committee leaders through memos, documentation, and regular virtual training sessions.
Engagement: ● Provide timely, comprehensive analysis and training to OEC team members, IE team, the cross departmental Ballot Measure Steering Committee, affiliate cohorts, active ballot committee members, and others upon request. ● With Senior Director, creates the development of PP Action Fund ballot committee research agenda ● Advise research agenda of independent ballot committees and PP Votes supported electoral programs. ● Persuades internal and external stakeholders towards project completion. Fosters collaboration and resolves conflict. ● Provide training as needed to Federation program staff on best practices for developing and interpreting data to guide ballot campaigns including qualitative and quantitative public opinion research, modeling, ad testing. ● Collaborate with ballot committees and their vendors and consultants to implement best data practices ● Develops and occasionally leads external communications ● Learn and practice a data equity framework, where data and research practices support a culture of justice, fairness, and inclusivity across difference ● Produce and maintain a variety of slides, reports, summaries, spreadsheets, and other written documentation for different audiences. Develop summary materials to explain outcomes and lessons learned
Delivery : ● Manage analysis and documentation of research findings. Establishes data tracking systems ● Independently creates project plans and manages deliverables that are designed for easy use and to anticipate research team needs. ● Develop robust training procedures and processes on research development and analysis for OEC staff and PP affiliates ● Produce and maintain a variety of slides, reports, summaries, spreadsheets, and other written documentation for different
audiences.Develop reports and summaries of lessons learned ● Assist with the development and project support for candidate and advocacy research ● Prioritize data equity across trainings and partnerships
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): ● Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in data science, electoral or ballot measure campaigns is required. Ballot campaign experience is preferred ● Academic or practical experience in research methodologies is preferred ● Must be able to motivate and lead teammates and colleagues who are not direct reports and across divisions and geographies ● Self-starter with a high level of creative initiative. Practiced at making decisions quickly and multi-tasking between project-based work and operations. ● Able to adapt to rapidly evolving campaign priorities, maintain composure, and demonstrate impeccable judgment in the face of ambiguity or high-stress situations. ● Flexibility to work occasional extended hours and weekends. ● Discretion in handling sensitive or confidential information. ● High attention to detail and strong organization ability is required ● A self-starter who can own and bring projects to completion is required ● Strong oral and written communication skills is required ● Flexibility to learn new skills and adapt to changing technology is required ● Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Planned Parenthood is required ● Commitment to applying a strong race equity lens and experience in project management design, decision, analysis, and engagement is required. ● Intermediate knowledge of Advanced Microsoft Excel or other Spreadsheet software is required
Travel: 0-25% domestic $80,000 - $85,000 a year Total offer package to include generous vacation + sick leave + paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k.
