The Director, Business Development is the first person in the newly formed division of Spreetail, Platform Services, and will be responsible for landing and onboarding Brands into the division. Over time, they will also be responsible for building and managing the BD team members, which will include directors, Managers, Sr BD, and BD team members. As a leader in the division, this role will ensure the continuity and success of the greater Platform Services team. Key drivers will be to deliver new accounts and hit Revenue goals by month and calendar year.
How you will achieve success:
- Leads the Platform Services Business Development (BD) activities (both strategic and tactical) and eventually the expanding team. Responsible for creating and articulating a clear vision for the Business Development function within the new division, developing long-term strategies, and aligning them with organizational goals.
- Led Spreetail Asia brand building and B2B marketing to establish Spreetail’s strength. Responsible for building the division's infrastructure and resources to acquire new brands. This includes defining and managing requirements, designing and implementing processes, creating SOPs, and ensuring compliance with legal standards.
- Takes responsibility for developing the brand acquisition model that yields the revenue and assortment targets, including the conversion funnel and timeline. Utilizes reporting and analytics to make informed decisions and track performance.
- Structures and manages the business development data and process needed to prospect and onboard new brands efficiently.
- Collaborates with the Merchant team to develop the overall brand targeting strategy and category-specific strategies and targets and collaborate with the US B2B marketing team to develop materials to advertise Spreetail Platform Service.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to align the new division's goals with the organization and lead the development of pitch materials that clearly define the benefits of a partnership with Spreetail, making sure each pitch is suited to the unique needs of that vendor.
- Work with the tools and training team to consistently improve training and time to onboard new vendors and work closely with the tools and training team to consistently enhance training methods and reduce the time required to onboard new brands. Leads and manages organizational change, especially in the context of establishing a new division, and represents the division when meeting with executive teams and small business managers/owners from prospective new brands.
- Drafts and negotiates T&Cs, contracts, and agreements, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance. Builds pitch methods and strategies that differ by category, with special consideration for Platform Services vs Enterprise targets. Collaborates with marketing and the merchandising teams to design the pitch deck template, tailoring each pitch to the unique needs of the brand.
- Focuses on talent acquisition and team building, creating a positive and collaborative team culture, and identifying and mitigating potential risks in establishing the new division.
What experiences will help you in this role:
- 8+ years' experience leading and managing people and extensive negotiation experience.
- Experience in process management, KPI tracking, and CRM management.
- Trade show networking experience and a background in a key target industry that is relevant to home, backyard, or garage products (not required, but a plus).
- P&L management experience and deep functional knowledge within retail, eCommerce, marketplaces, or US parcel distribution.
- Strong public speaking abilities/ presentation abilities to C-Suite Executives, SMB, Owners and/or National VPs of Sales.
