WORK SCHEDULE
  • Full-time, 100% FTE, Day Shift

  • POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Positions in this class perform routine corrective maintenance work, adjust, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair or replace components on: low voltage and line voltage circuits and systems, individual electrical powered items and equipment such as motors, pumps, clocks, lamps, interior and exterior lighting fixtures, sanitation equipment, electrical timers, fans, air conditioners/HVAC, kitchen equipment, appliances, refrigerators/freezers, power tools and motor controllers.

  • PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs work in all areas of the Medical Center, including areas with limited access, restricted clearances and clean room environments. Understands and takes proper area specific infection control precautions for the assigned task. May work in close proximity to in progress medical procedures.
  • Performs alteration work, with or without blueprints and detailed specifications, such as: installing and or modifying conduit, wiring, cables, switches, controls, fuse boxes, breakers panels, instrument panels, distribution panels, alarm, buzzer and bell circuits, power circuits and communication circuits. May construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications.
  • Inspects electrical systems, communications systems and equipment to detect and correct faulty components or parts. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and repair through the use of manuals and schematic diagrams.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, calibrates, and repairs specialized systems and equipment, including: Electrical Distribution system devices, Automatic transfer switches; Nurse call Medical Emergency and status light systems such as Zettler and Executone; electrical components and alarms of the medical gas and medical vacuum systems; Variable Frequency Speed Controllers; 6" Pneumatic tube system and the Point to Point Pneumatic Tube Systems; Surgery lights; warming cabinets; imprinters; and Simplex clock systems including 3510 HZ system correction and the Visiplex GPS clock correction system.
  • Communicates with all customers to promote successful customer relations. Works with customers, supervisors, electricians, and other trades to make recommendations on the purchase of new equipment, developing preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs, planning and performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and alterations.
  • Researches electrical blueprints, panel schedules, and related documents in addition to tracing circuits prior to scheduled shutdowns. Communicates and inquires with affected parties to identify critical needs that must remain in service. Works closely with Project coordinator, customers, contractors, and Supervisor in support of the planning and coordinating of these electrical shutdowns for maintenance, remodel and/or contract construction.
  • As a team member, works collaboratively with electricians, other trades, departmental staff and supervisors, in support of the department and its values and mission. Requests parts and supplies as required to maintain an inventory of parts commonly used for repair of various medical and building equipment. Participates in the training of new electricians. May lead and instruct helpers as required.
  • Investigates, verifies, and creates documentation including panel schedules, as built information, and equipment information updates. Provides updates and information, including limited data entry, in a manner that can be used to maintain existing equipment and electrical databases and drawings, for all areas of the Medical Center.
  • Perform related duties as required.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician; OR full journey status as an electrician in a union; OR four years' applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.

  • Examination Requirements:
  • The examination (including written, E & T and oral components) will consist of a scored evaluation of the applicant's training and experience as an electrician or electrician's helper; knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of the electrician trades and standard safety precautions; ability to work form blueprints, plans and sketches to estimate material and time required for job completion; and ability to maintain hand and power tools required to the trade.
