We are hiring an Assistant Controller to provide financial leadership by managing general accounting and financial reporting activities to ensure accurate and timely compliance with all internal & external reporting requirements for the Fanatics Collectibles – PWCC operating company based in Portland, Oregon. In May 2023, Fanatics Collectibles announced the acquisition of PWCC Marketplace (“PWCC”), one of the world's largest sports card, memorabilia and collectible auction houses. PWCC is also well-known for their PWCC Vault, a storage facility in Oregon that houses some of the rarest and most valuable sports cards and collectibles in the world. This role will require a visionary leader who displays a passion for strengthening the team and fostering collaboration, learning and growth. To be successful in this job, you must be a forward looking, proactive leader with business experience in increasingly complex businesses, across geographies and business channels. The candidate must be an experienced, collaborative accounting professional with the background and interpersonal skills sufficient to function successfully in a growth-enabling and challenging position. He or she must have the ability to embrace and assume “ownership” of various processes and reports, implementing structure and enhancing maturity. Attention to detail, superior organizational and project management skills, and exceptional communication skills are important.
Job Functions:
- Support ongoing business acquisition and related integration activities including accounting policy, controls, financial closing and technical accounting support
- Lead cross-functional accounting and finance projects including systems implementations, policy development and operationalization of technical accounting and reporting matters
- Assist with technical accounting research and provide technical guidance in preparing transactional accounting and documenting memos, as needed
- Prepare ad hoc financial reporting requests, other analyses and special projects requested by management
- Lead various financial analyses to investigate financial results and understand impacts for communication to management
- Assist in preparing and developing the Collectibles business to scale-up and be SOX compliant based upon process improvements, sourcing and implementing the proper technology, and placing proper talent within key roles
- Assist with driving compliance with GAAP and implementation of new standards
- Maintain effective relationships with organizational leaders across holding company and shared-service controllership, tax, treasury, legal, FP&A functions, and a broad group of cross-functional business teams acting as the conduit to teams on emerging business issues impacting financial reporting priorities
- Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues
- Coordinate and assist with requests from external auditors
- Assist with managing and developing an efficient, clean and successful audit
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- Bachelor (or higher) degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum of 8-10 years of technical accounting and/or financial reporting experience, public accounting and private experience preferred
- CPA (or equivalent) with minimum of 8 years of US GAAP experience. SEC experience with a public company a plus.
- Experience in acquisitions and related integration activities
- Experience in ERP implementation projects and other efforts to increase automation in accounting closing procedures
- Experience in building cross-functional relationships and partnering with senior leaders
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and internal controls, with experience and proficiency in researching technical accounting issues
- Ability to think proactively and work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment
- Desire to develop and continuously improve processes
- Experience handling annual audits and working with internal and external audit functions
- Excellent proficiency in the use of spreadsheet programs and other software applications for financial analysis
- Must have strong analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, and experience with ERPs (Oracle, Sage) is preferred
- A CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is preferred for this role.
