Keeping Customers Streaming — The Centralized Site Reliability Practice at Netflix Responsibilities
- Each team member holds the pager for Netflix internal services and is able to command incidents with a focus on getting them to resolution
- Improve availability, reliability, and observability of internal Netflix services and reduce the burden of human toil with tooling and automation
- Proactively identify sources of instability in distributed systems and analyzing how complex systems fail from a reliability and resilience perspective
- Promote reliability and resilience practices throughout the organization
- Form and maintain relationships with internal and external partners
- Engage with product teams to diagnose operational surprises and drive improvements
- Conduct blame-aware incident reviews to learn from operational surprises that occur
- Reads signals in aggregate to develop deeper insights into the quality of experience for our users to help inform business decisions
- Improve our incident management lifecycle to identify, mitigate, and learn from reliability risks
Skills and Experiences:
- Experience with complex sociotechnical systems and their successful operations at scale
- Familiarity with Human Factors Engineering
- Experience with incident management and response
- Experience conducting blame-aware incident reviews
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS and microservices architecture
- Familiarity with enterprise software solutions like Slack & GSuite
- Ability to cultivate relationships through the influence
- Strong collaboration & continuous improvement mindset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to grow expertise, influence & educate others
- Familiarity with programming languages (Python, Go, Java or JavaScript/ Node.js )
