Job Description

Girls Who Code was established with a singular mission—to close the gender gap in technology fields by educating and equipping girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities. Reporting to the Sr. Director of College & Career Programs, the Community Manager will develop community programs and communication processes that benefit Girls Who Code College and Career program participants, alumni, and the broader Girls Who Code community. The Community Manager will organize social and professional events (in person and virtual), develop and manage community communication channels (including newsletters, Discord, and Zendesk), and lead the Alumni Advisory Council (AAC). They will also support the College & Careers team’s other programs (Workforce Programs, College Loops) by implementing community and sisterhood elements of programming. The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of demonstrated experience in community building, community management, alumni relations, and/or event production. The successful candidate is resourceful and results-oriented with a commitment to the Girls Who Code mission.

Responsibilities: Event Management

    • Lead logistics (catering, photography, venue) for select in-person and virtual community programs including celebrations, ceremonies, and volunteer opportunities.
    • Key events may include Summer Intern Meetups (in person), GWC Talks (virtual), GWC Connect (virtual) and Speed Networking (virtual).
    • Community Manager will also propose iterations to events and/or new events that align with team goals
    • Liaise with Development team to ensure partner community benefits, such as speaking, volunteering, and branding, are met
    • Liaise with other GWC teams to align cross-program timelines and attend monthly cross-team event planning meetings
    • Facilitate or support in-person and virtual events approximately 2-3 evenings per month
    • Administer pre and post event surveys and share results and documentation to inform future event strategy

Alumni Advisory Council Management

    • Manage annual application and selection process, onboarding, and regular communication with the AAC
    • Design and execute quarterly meetings for AAC members, including activities, training, speakers, and feedback gathering.
    • Coordinate with other GWC teams for AAC opportunities (speaking, writing, focus groups, Board meetings, etc)
    • Track AAC engagements, allocate assignments, and manage annual stipend distribution

Communications

    • Write regular newsletters and other mass communications for the alumni community in collaboration with the College and Careers Team
    • Maintain alumni Discord server and select and supervise alumni moderators
    • Act as C&C Zendesk (inbound customer service tool) liaison with Operations team, which includes reviewing data and analytics, creating new content as needed, and improving cross-team processes

Support Adjacent College & Career Programs

    • Promote College & Career Programs through community channels
    • Lead subsections of College & Career Programs that support community-building and peer-to-peer relationships (example: Alumni Panels at Hiring Summit)
    • Support the Sr. Director and Chief Program Officer with reporting and documentation of programs, including survey management, focus groups, and roundtables
    • Consult on pilot program development and new initiatives through independent research and/or soliciting community input
    • Maintain relationships directly with community members to support storytelling initiatives, program promotion, and constituent research
    • Advocate for Girls Who Code alumni and community members and help develop relationships and opportunities to further their learning and professional growth

Requirements:

    • At least 4 years prior experience working with college-aged or young professional populations on community-building, professional development, or job training
    • Experience writing for external audiences, e.g. newsletters, marketing emails, event invitations
    • Comfort with public speaking and meeting facilitation in online and in-person settings
    • Detail-oriented with superb organizational skills, able to create timelines and project plans that balance multiple priorities at once
    • Experience working with complex operations, workflows, and systems; comfortable and excited to learn new technologies and tools as needed (Ex: Discord, Campaign Monitor, SalesForce, vFairs)
    • Desire to learn and grow as part of a small organization; team player with a flexible, creative, and analytical approach to problem-solving
    • Exceptional communication skills; ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across multiple teams to support seamless program execution
    • In-office requirement: two days per week (Tuesday is required, second day is either Monday, Thursday, or Friday)

    • May require up to 10% domestic travel

$65,000 - $83,000 a year Compensation transparency statement : The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
