The Field Technician will be responsible for supporting the configuration, troubleshooting, repair and the deployment of proprietary technologies into water and wastewater pipelines by means of either pressurized (live) or depressurized methods of tool’s insertion, for pipeline condition assessment, while working to maintain a safe work environment for self and others at all times. In this role, the individual will also assist Senior Technicians with technical planning and coordination of the field activities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES : To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Consistently apply appropriate procedures and processes with minimal direction from others
  • Operate tools and technology onsite under the supervision of qualified field technicians
  • Prepare basic documentation, tools and equipment for mobilization to project sites
  • Identify safety hazards and apply safe working practices to self and peers; keeps job site clean
  • Actively participate and may lead onsite safety and planning meetings to review safety risks and areas of concern based on planning documentation and onsite observations
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues, with support of qualified technicians
  • Empowered to raise observations/concerns and recognition to immediate team and leadership as required
  • Focus on continuous improvement by consistently looking for ways to improve and promote quality, efficacy, and safety
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be required based on organizational needs

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • 2 or 3-year diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent (engineering technologist)
  • Up to 5 years of previous field experience with infrastructure or general construction projects
  • Mechanically inclined and good with hand tools
  • Experience with water utilities or municipalities a plus
  • Proven ability to be well organized and punctual
  • Dedicated team player committed to safe and successful operations for everyone involved
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and/or maps and can translate to the field
  • Proven ability to complete assigned work in a timely manner with quality results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Availability to work overtime, weekends and holidays when needed
  • Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen
  • Up to 75% Travel within Canada. May be required to travel to the U.S. a few times a year in the future without impediment – i.e. needs a clean record (U.S. Work VISA not required at this moment)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; must have a reasonable driver’s record
  • Exhibit objectivity and openness to others’ views
  • Experience working directly with clients and/or subcontractors with little supervision

DAY IN THE LIFE :

In this role, the working environment is {mostly outdoors, year-round, under various weather conditions} and the physical demands may include but not limited to {regularly sitting, bending, standing on feed for prolonged time, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces, including manned entry to safely isolated / decommissioned pipelines}. In addition, this role may {require travel up to 75%} and {may require work up to 12 hours per shift on either days or nights, weekends and holidays, depending on the project requirements}
