The Opportunity

We are seeking a hard-working Subrogation Specialist Intermediate - Injury Demander position. We are seeking a strong subrogation professional that passionately and proactively pursues all applicable injury subrogation potential from legally liable tortfeasors and/or their insurance carriers, to consistently deliver the right recovery outcomes in every claim in support of our mission to protect the financial security of our members, the association, and their families.

This position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Colorado Springs, CO or Tampa, FL. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.

Within defined guidelines and framework, you will provide specialized Auto and/or Property claims service in the recovery of payments made to USAA members by legally pursuing a third party that caused an insurance loss to the insured.

What you'll do:

  • Conducts claims investigations for moderate to high complexity cases by analyzing the facts surrounding a loss to reach a recovery conclusion, including recording statements, securing public records and analyzing report findings.
  • Applies intermediate knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, common law, contract law, state statutes, evidence and damages.
  • Evaluates the recovery potential for personal auto/property claims and pursue recovery of damages using appropriate recovery avenues.
  • Reviews and audits estimates and settle claims within prescribed limits of authority.
  • Effectively negotiates settlements with contractors, adjusters or any insured representative.
  • Recognizes and documents subrogation, SIU, and salvage opportunities, and refer accordingly.
  • Reimburses policyholder's deductible after recovery is made.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
  • 1 years claims adjusting experience.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and designated number of attempts.
  • Intermediate knowledge of common law, contract and negligence laws.
  • Ability to confidently resolve issues and negotiate fair settlements.
  • Strong written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

What sets you apart:

  • 2 years 1st party (MP/PIP) Experience (very important)
  • 1 year of Third Party/UM/UIM BI Experience (high priority)
  • 1 year Subrogation Experience
  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $51,900.00 - $83,420.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
