Patient Care Coordinator (Full-Time, Day Shifts). The Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) is responsible for coordinating the delivery of medical care, as formulated by UWMC Neurosurgery physicians or their designee, and patients' access to various health care services. The PCC will facilitate patients' entry into and through the health care system, coordinate patient care services, and serve as a patient advocate. Under the general direction of the Department Chief, with assistance from the Health Service Manager, the PCC will use knowledge of the clinic, division and hospital policies/procedures, insurance coverage requirements (including pre-admission authorization and third party payer and reimbursement procedures) to coordinate all patient services such as admitting, arranging diagnostic tests or procedures, scheduling surgery and consultation requests, and scheduling services of other hospital departments to facilitate delivery of care to patients.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES>/b>
Schedule and coordinate surgical cases in a variety of clinics while covering planned or un-planned PCC outages
Coordinating all pre-operative and post-operative appointments, imaging studies, etc. as appropriate for the surgery and/or by surgeon request
Act as a scheduling liaison, communicating with the patient, providing information for surgical planning and documenting clinical patient questions for clinical staff to address
Ensure financial pre-authorization is obtained (if required) for the surgery by partnering with the Financial Access Clearance Team – this may also include requesting health plan authorized PCP referrals
Update insurance information as necessary when patient communicates a change
Add-on or cancel cases as directed by surgeon, and manage or release un-utilized OR block time as appropriate
Reserve specialty OR equipment and coordinate procedure dates with vendors, as applicable
Ensure Pre-Anesthesia has the required information to review patient health history in advance of the surgery date
Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in a medically related or public relations field AND two years of experience in a complex patient care setting involving interaction with a variety of medical services, contact with patients and families, interaction with physicians, and proficiency in medical terminology OR equivalent education/experience.

•Cranial and Skull Base Tumors
•Spine: Simple/Complex/Orthopedic
•Endovascular/Cerebrovascular/Stroke
•Functional Neurosurgery: Deep Brain Stimulation
