Job Summary

As a member of the Comcast DevX Observability team, you will be responsible for overseeing the logging and tracing teams. The Director is instrumental in ensuring that the DevX team provides a robust Observability platform. The individual will work on delivering roadmap items and support the existing logging and tracing services in production.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities:

  • Identify solutions for a consolidated logging and consolidated tracing services which can sustain more than 300 TB / day.
  • Work with the team to support, improve performance and architect the overall Observability platform.
  • Determines when and how to use quantitative research tools and models and assists in interpretation and development of implications to address client business problems.
  • Establishes policies, standards, practices and security measures to assure effective and consistent information processing operations and to safeguard the information resources.
  • Recommends alternative solutions or adjustments to solutions to correct problems or solidify successes in the perspective of current and proposed operating strategies.
  • Identifies and drives system improvements to create efficiencies with regards to cost and performance.
  • Directs the planning and deployment of Observability solutions (specifically logging & Tracing), policies and procedures, including design of source documents, operational requirements, sustaining activities and performance reports.
  • Directs the continuing review of all current systems/applications and formulation of future systems/applications so as to efficiently accomplish business purposes within budget.
  • Develops and communicates goals, strategies, tactics, project plans, timelines and key performance metrics to reach goals.
  • Develops and manages budget to ensure required resources are available.
  • Defines the information, reporting and analytical needs of the company. Develops goals, strategies and plans needed to achieve the vision.
  • Ensures programs progress, status reviews are completed, and corrective actions are taken when needed.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years supporting Information technology.
  • 5+ years with Elastic Search and Grafana
  • 5+ plus years of experience in Observability area: logging, metrics & tracing
  • Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to manage a geographically diverse team
  • Experience managing large scale applications

Education

Bachelor's Degree

While possessing the stated degree is preferred, Comcast also may consider applicants who hold some combination of coursework and experience, or who have extensive related professional experience.
