Job Description
COVID-19 continues to significantly impact our employees, families and communities. With employee health and safety as our top priority, and as a federal contractor, Lockheed Martin is taking action to address the increased risk and uncertainty COVID-19 variants pose in the workplace and ensuring we meet our commitments to national security.
To uphold safety for all employees, we will continue to request vaccination status for all Lockheed Martin employees including new hires. All current and newly hired employees are required to follow onsite safety measures based upon the COVID-19 Community Level at the specific work location.
Description:This is a temporary position for a Lockheed Martin employee who is on a long-term Military Leave of Absence. Our Live/Virtual/Constructive (LVC) capability is an indispensable to the foundation of one of the best Air Force training ranges in the world, the Barry M. Goldwater Range (BMGR) in southern AZ. There's a myriad of live ground and air threats available to Luke AFB F-35 and F-16 pilots at the BMGR. The capability that provides backup and bridges the gap between those assets is LVC. Air and ground threats as well as additional blue entities can be created and broadcast over a Link-16 Tactical Datalink. These entities are displayed in the pilot's Situation Displays. This capability is a valuable force multiplier at a fraction of the cost of using live assets. It can be used for anything from teaching the basics of Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses to complex Large Force employment exercises involving 40 or more live and constructive players. In addition to constructive (computer generated) entities, our LVC SME can transmit targeting messages and text message updates to the pilots in lieu of airborne command and control aircraft. The LVC operator is also able to communicate directly with the pilots using normal voice comm, if the scenario requires it. To the pilots, it's as if the LVC entities are real. Not only does LVC save money, it also reduces the number of aircraft required for each syllabus mission freeing up live sorties for continuation and other syllabus training. Luke AFB is on the cutting edge of LVC integration with the newest War Room technology. The LVC SME interacts with F-35 and F-16 pilots on a daily basis to build scenarios. The LVC SME also works closely with the engineers who are creating this emerging technology at the Phoenix based Georgia Tech Research Institute and Air Force Research laboratories. The software and hardware resources and architecture of LVC at Luke will be replicated in War Rooms across the USAF. Some LVC SME duties include:
- Working directly with F-16 and F-35 pilots to build creative training scenarios using a threat generation software simulation in concert with a Tactical Data Link (TDL) to enhance live training
- Incorporating the latest Tactics, Techniques and Procedures into LVC training to ensure cutting edge training for all LVC participants
- Expanding current LVC capabilities by planning and executing upgrades to increase training capacity and improve effectiveness
- Continue the direct working relationship with the hardware and software vendors of LVC system components to maximize LVC training effectiveness
- Continuously improve the LVC experience by working directly with the 56 Fighter Wing's Weapons officers
- Previously qualified F-16 pilots will fly as a pilot in the development and testing of 4, high fidelity, networked F-16 cockpits
Basic Qualifications:
- 4th or 5th Generation fighter pilot, Weapon System Operator (WSO) or Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in a U.S. fighter or bomber
- Must have a secret DoD security clearance prior to starting this position with a background investigation within the past 6 years from employment start date.
Desired Skills:
- Previously qualified F-35 pilot
- Previously qualified F-16 pilot
- Any tactical fighter/bomber experience
- Instructor qualification
- Weapons Instructor Course (WIC) or Top Gun graduate
- Formal Training Unit Instructor Pilot or WSO
- Recent operational DoD experience
- Previous LVC experience
- Previous simulator instructor
- Link-16 familiarity and experience
- Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) experience
- Any formal training unit instructor experience
