Job Description
Girls Who Code was established with a singular mission—to close the gender gap in technology fields by educating and equipping girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Workforce Programs, the Workforce Programs Manager, Content and Instructional Design will lead the creation of all non-technical career development materials for College & Career programs, including Work Prep, College Loops, Leadership Academy, and other pilots. Each year, College & Career programs support thousands of college-aged students and young professionals by providing opportunities in a) career exploration, b) career readiness, c) leadership development, and 4) direct hiring support. Through a range of programs and activities, participants are offered curriculum materials such as workbooks, worksheets, best practices documentation, continuing education resources, discussion guides, etc. to support them in creating resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and portfolios. These materials also guide them in job search best practices, preparing for interviews, networking, and other professional skills. This role will also hire (in collaboration with Sr. Manager) and onboard part-time instructors and coaches. They will supervise instructors during programs, and train them on GWC programs, core values, and best practices. The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of demonstrated experience in the design and development of career readiness resources and/or curriculum for college-aged students. They are well versed in contemporary standards for hiring managers, preferably in the tech industry. This is a full-time position that is based in New York City. A regular, hybrid work schedule, requiring 2 days in the office, is currently in place. Subject to change. We are not considering remote applicants. Salary: $65,000 - 83,000
Responsibilities:
- Design and create student-facing materials for College & Career Programs, including College Loops, Work Prep, Technical Interview Prep (non-technical content on job searching and behavioral interview preparation), Leadership Academy, and other pilot programs or events. Content created may include: worksheets, workbooks, discussion guides, best practices documentation, training materials, and continuing education resources
- Collaborate with other team members to align content materials with program goals, student experience levels, and partner expectations
- Connect with corporate hiring partners to collect and incorporate stakeholder feedback into resources and curriculum
- Hire (in collaboration with Sr. Manager and Talent Acquisition team) instructors, coaches, or facilitators (part-time) as needed for Workforce Programs.
- Develop and deliver training materials for part-time instructors to ensure high-quality of programming; support instructors with regular meetings, feedback, and support
- Continually research best practices for job searching and career readiness in tech industry to ensure materials are relevant and prepare students for competitive jobs
- Liaise with Curriculum Team (which focuses on technical/coding content) to align on curriculum standards, best practices, and to create continuity with materials
- Review feedback and surveys on materials and continually iterate based on student and partner input
- Advocate for Girls Who Code alumni and help develop relationships and opportunities to further their learning and professional growth
Requirements:
- At least 4 years prior experience in job readiness, career development, career coaching, or early talent recruiting (college and/or post-graduation)
- Detail-oriented; superb organizational skills
- Experience working with complex operations, workflows, and systems; as well as designing and implementing new processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable drafting, copy-editing, and formatting worksheets, workbooks, and other materials
- Up to date knowledge of contemporary hiring practices, professional expectations, and tech industry processes, and/or enthusiasm for landscape research and documentation
- Experience designing and leading small group trainings or workshops
- Strong project management skills, alongside an ability to anticipate, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
- Flexible and adaptable, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where projects may be re-scoped or pivoted to better address organizational needs.
- Desire to learn and grow as part of a small organization; team player with a flexible, creative, and analytical approach to problem solving
- Preferred: Knowledge of tech industry hiring standards and practices
- Ability and willingness to travel as necessary (~10%)
