Job Description

This is a key full time role focused on Visa public affairs & regulations for the Nordics and Baltics, supporting the Government Engagement cluster lead for the region. The role entails supporting and driving Visa's government and regulatory affairs strategy by analysing the policy and regulatory environment Visa operates in, understanding potential political, policy and regulatory scenarios, assessing their implications for Visa, prioritizing issues, developing Visa's positions and relevant arguments and effectively engaging with regulatory bodies, policy makers, public sector agencies and relevant stakeholders.

The role is aimed at supporting primarily the Copenhagen based Government Engagement Director for the Nordics and Baltics in policy, regulatory and public affairs work, while also feeding into work of the EU Government Engagement team across the region and Europe. The role may be based from Visa offices in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki or Oslo.

Key regulatory and government affairs goals include:

  • Following and anticipating regulatory and policy initiatives at national level and developing and executing proactive advocacy and engagement strategies to convey Visa's positions to policy and decision-makers
  • Developing Visa's positions with regard to key regulatory initiatives by identifying business risks and opportunities
  • Assisting in identifying business opportunities with government and ensuring Visa is well positioned to take advantage of potential partnerships with national government agencies in relation to digitisation, smart cities, sustainability and other potential government projects that may benefit from the application of electronic payments.
  • Build and maintain a network of relevant stakeholders in both the private and public sector

As a member of the European Regulatory and Government Engagement team, the position demands the ability to work constructively in the local arena, and operate simultaneously in the regional and global corporate environment. Working both independently and as a member of cross functional teams is essential. The ability and willingness to play an active role in developing strategic positions, regional and global public and regulatory policy positions for Visa will be important. The ability to work independently and interact constructively with other functions is expected. Occasional travel to other European countries is also a feature of the position.

What we expect of you, day to day.

  • Anticipate and respond to policy developed by relevant policy and decision makers
  • Participate in developing and implementing Visa's strategy in response to regulatory/policy initiatives in the region. Support and run cross functional teams on key priorities
  • Identify emerging trends, monitor local regulatory and political landscape for threats and opportunities to Visa's business and communicate this intelligence to locally based business leaders, functional colleagues and European and global management.
  • Support management of Visa's relationships with officials at key institutions (e.g. Central Banks, Ministries of Finance, Ministries of Digitisation, local Parliaments etc), key trade associations, think tanks etc including improving the company's overall perception and reputation.
  • Write position papers, articles, executive correspondence, briefing books, presentations, meeting requests and readouts,
  • Regularly communicate directly with lawmakers, government officials, regulators, and policy makers that may impact Visa's business to enhance Visa's reputation and competitive position.
  • Promote Visa's reputation and profile by speaking at public events, industry conferences, webinars, association committees and roundtables, etc.
  • Assist with special projects including presentations to executives, research on policy initiatives, and support of external advocacy related events. Be acutely aware of potential global implications of local issues and coordinate their management with regional and global colleagues.
  • Support Government Engagement Lead for Nordics and Baltics with the outreach to local public stakeholders and closely cooperate on key deliverables
  • Maintain reporting line to Government Engagement Lead for Nordics and Baltics, exchange intel on market activities and agree on the key priorities

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• Relevant work experience with a Bachelors Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
• Substantial experience in regulatory, government or public affairs agency
• Degree, or equivalent, in political sciences, Law or Economics
• Sound knowledge and understanding of retail financial services, payment industry or fintech
• Strong digital services or technology interest
• Strategic thinking and excellent written and spoken communications skills in English, knowledge of other Nordic languages a plus
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to exercise good judgment regarding information management as some may be confidential or not suitable for public public disclosure
• Proven ability to operate effectively and efficiently in a challenging, fast-paced environment
• Ability to multi-task and independently manage and prioritize work, while meeting key deadlines
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on high quality work and consistent performance over time is essential
• Exercise good judgment in setting priorities and interacting with internal and external contacts
• Excellent relationship management skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
• Proven experience acting in a proactive, solutions oriented manner, looking for ways to add value and assist the team
