SR. SOFTWARE ENGINEER (STARLINK IP & ROUTING)

Want to build the next era of the Internet? Do you enjoy implementing network protocols? Are you excited about building innovative core network technologies used by people around the world to access the Internet?

This position entails creating software that is used to design, develop, launch and operate a low latency, high capacity broadband network. You will engage with other SpaceX engineers to discover the needs of the missions and code highly reliable software which turns the mission into reality. You will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of the software you create, including development, testing, and support.

The success of SpaceX’s satellite internet business depends on the quality of the software that you and your team produce. That includes reliability, fault tolerance, throughput, security and user experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop highly reliable and available software systems for our low latency, high capacity satellite-based global software defined network.
• Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant network that operates for long periods of time with minimal maintenance at scale.
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Develop prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints.
• Write high quality Linux based software for common processors such as ARM, PowerPC, x86, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline and 5+ years of professional development experience in C/C++; or 7+ years of professional experience in software development in lieu of a degree.
• 2+ years of professional experience with networking technologies such as TCP/IPv4/IPv6, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, traffic engineering, switching ASICs, etc.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in C/C++ for high performance systems.
• Experience with graph structures and algorithms applied to traffic engineering.
• Experience in designing software defined networking controllers and algorithms for traffic optimization.
• Developed, debugged and deployed software that has been used in real world applications/projects.
• Experience with distributed systems or large-scale consumer internet services.
• Thorough knowledge of systems, software development, networks, electronics, math and physics.
• Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization and unit testing.
• Creative approach to problem solving, exceptional analytical skills and engineering fundamentals.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
