Lead Data Engineer

Job Description

Provide leadership to team of data engineers and developers to apply Amazon Web Services (AWS), including S3, RedShift, EMR, Glue, to ingest and transform data for data analytics, machine learning, and marketing campaign management use cases; apply technological expertise to address data challenges that business and clients face, using insights to turn challenges into opportunities; design and implement data pipelines that leverage key AWS big data services, including Lambda, Glue, Lake Formation, API Gateway, Redshift, Athena, Elasticsearch Service, and Spark EMR; as a data subject matter expert, support the Business in the understanding and interpretation of marketing data and help derive approaches for how data can be used to support effective marketing operation; identify, design, and implement internal process improvements including automating manual processes, optimizing data pipeline performance, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and access to information; develop ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, design database systems, and develop tools for analytic processing; build and maintain scalable data solutions in cloud environment and drive business improvements with innovative Big Data and AWS technologies; lead all phases of solution development; explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients and less experienced team members; translate business specifications into design specifications and code; responsible for writing complex programs, ad hoc queries, and reports; ensures that all code is well structured, includes sufficient documentation, and is easy to maintain and reuse; test and implement new software releases through regression testing; identify issues and engage with vendors to resolve and elevate software into production.

Requirements:

Requires Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related IT field and two years of experience in job offered or in IT position(s) including Senior Informatica Application Engineer and/or Informatica Application Engineer and/or Programmer Analyst; or Bachelor’s and five years of experience. Background in education, training or experience must include AWS data services (EMR, EC2, S3, Redshift, Athena); distributed computing and massive parallel processing languages (e.g., PySpark) and concepts; Database Systems, Data Warehousing, Data Modeling and ETL tools; software development best practices, including CI/CD and version control; Star & Snowflake Schema, FACT & Dimension Data Modeling; CI/CD, Bit bucket/Bamboo. Ability to work from home two days a week.

Future of Work

During the pandemic, we transitioned to a work from home model for the majority of our crew and we continue to interview, hire, and on-board future crew remotely.

As we have developed the path forward, we have taken a thoughtful approach that both maximizes the advantages of working remotely and the many benefits of coming together and collaborating in a shared workspace. When our Crew return to the office, many will work in our hybrid model. A smaller proportion of our crew will operate in the Work from Home work model (for example, field sales crew); or in the Work from Office model (for example, portfolio managers).
