Apple is seeking to fill a position within the G&A Finance Team to support the Intellectual Property & Licensing (IP&L) Department, as well as assist in managing the overall Legal Accrual related to Legal matters. This position is key to driving excellence in our key processes, and has many opportunities to provide insightful financial information, analysis and insights to key partners across the Company. This position will report to the Legal division controller.

• Minimum of 4 years experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to articulate complex financial data and concepts in simple business terms
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficient in working with cross-functional teams across different levels of management & business partners
• Strong background in Accounting and Finance with experience managing operating expenses
• Highly motivated self starter, with an ability to think strategically and motivate change as needed
• Strong experience working in teams and collaboration across cross-functional groups
• Strategic problem solver with the ability to see the big picture while working with ambiguity and uncertainty
• Strong prioritization skills with a proven track record of successfully and simultaneously managing multiple complex projects while under pressure and meeting critical deadlines
• Familiarity with IP deals, valuation, & accounting treatment and understanding of patent prosecution spend life cycle is a plus

Description

Description - Create strong business partnerships with senior leaders in the Intellectual Property & Licensing group and related business functions. This role is to be the leader for Finance related IP&L issues, coordinating activities across Finance to support IP&L as necessary. - Further develop and maintain an infrastructure of Financial analyses that provide meaningful insights to the effectiveness and efficiency of Apple’s IP investments and consistently identify opportunities for value maximization. This includes valuation of the company’s IP portfolio and valuation of potential additions to the portfolio. - Play the lead Finance role in IP licenses & acquisitions, including leading and coordinating activities in areas such as deal modeling and valuation, proper licensing rate determination, accounting treatment, & royalty impact. - Ensure financial optimization of organic patent portfolio growth through per unit cost controls and robust financial planning and be knowledgeable about the drivers of spend in other areas of IP - Trademark, IP Enforcement, IP Standards, & IP Transactions - and plan accordingly. - Develop analytics that provide meaningful insights to the efficiency of legal spend on Intellectual Property Matters. - Create Annual Budgets and update Monthly Forecasts for Professional Service spend. - Review e-billing budgets, purchase orders and headcount requisitions to ensure adherence to budgets and internal policies. - Analyze the existing processes, tools and deliverables for effectiveness and ease of use, help drive scalable systems that integrate with other financial systems and eBilling tool, leverage data to deliver a level of detail that helps the business. Utilize data for annual budgeting, monthly forecasting and quarter end close. - Provide management reports for IP managers and leaders that enables the groups to manage their budgets and headcount in accordance with Plan. - Manage accruals for quarterly close, ensuring adherence to SOX requirements for the substantiation of accruals. - Review actuals to ensure correct accounting treatment and requesting journal entries when necessary. - Manage & coordinate RF and Legal accruals related to legal matters in accordance with Internal Controls & Testing Procedures (ICAT). Coordinate activities across Legal & Finance to manage P&L impact across Apple including business heads up, journal entries, and accounting treatment.

Education & Experience Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Economics or Finance (MBA preferred)
