Job Description

Overview of the Role

Linux System Administrator is part of the CONNECT - NGAN Operations team that is responsible for building and operating the VCMTS platform. This position will work with the development teams for incident mitigation and problem management. This role will be responsible for the following:

  • Platform Stand up – Software installation
  • Change implementation – system upgrades, RMA, automation (scripting)
  • Problem Management – Identify service impacting trends and work with the development teams to implement long term solutions.
  • Incident Mitigation – On call rotation to mitigate incident.
  • DAA Platform Team – Supports Access networks and systems architecture within the CONNECT and we are Platform Operations teams.
  • Deploy vCMTS technology and work with and maintain vendor relations;
  • Develop, operate, and administer enterprise-scale vCMTS operations with the latest software builds in virtual CMTSs.

Work is performed in a 24/7 operatoins environment. Must be available to work weekends and holidays on an on call basis.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage vCMTS microservices packaged in Docker/Kubernetes containers to support Docsis environment.
  • Perform system health-checks and remediates issues
  • Network Routing & Switching – Upgrade, troubleshoot issues with Juniper and Arista switches & device RMAs
  • HPE servers RMAs, triaging hardware issues and working around iLO, assisting headend techs with hardware swaps over the phone
  • Troubleshoot ISIS protocols, multicast on switches and BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)
  • Monitor alerts, and work on outage escalations
  • Deploy system firmware upgrades for HPE servers and Linux/Ubuntu
  • Utilize Docker containers and manage Kubernetes infrastructure to scale multiple pods in vCMTS namespaces
  • Work with CI/CD pipeline to deploy changes via GIT
  • Deploy device configurations using software automation and deployer
  • Debug production issues related to Kubernetes pod issues/Server issues, routing and switching, Linux/Ubuntu issues, and logs collections and analyses
  • Create and track Problem tickets and work with Problem management to address issues from development, analyze various system logs (dmesg, syslog, and Kernel logs)
  • Work closely with Development, Deployment, Incident, Problem, Quality, Program, Product and Management teams.
  • Ability to work and derive creative and practical solutions to complex problems in independent work environment.
  • Partner with Division and Regional Engineering teams for Product reliability improvements.
  • Implement market leading process and operational strategies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • 3+ years of Operations experience in a 24x7 Environment.
  • Strong understanding of the following technologies:

i.Unix/Linux Environments

ii. Scripting and automation (bash, python, etc...)

iii. Proven experience and skill with network troubleshooting and configuration.

iv. Proven experience and skill with server hardware and software troubleshooting.

v. Kubernetes, Jenkins, Ansible and Git experience is a plus.

vi. Experience building and replacing system hardware.

vii. Cloud infrastructure experience a plus.

viii. Experience defining, implementing, and monitoring IT services is a plus.

ix. Exposure and familiarity with new product integration.

  • Excellent customer service skills with a professional demeanor. Must at all times be able to communicate clearly with all levels of employees, external vendors and management teams
  • This candidate must be able to adapt and switch between management and Product subject matter expert responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to achieve specific results with little direction.
  • Ability to work under pressure being adaptable and responsive to organizational requirements.
  • Maintain high degree of self-motivation and independent decision making.

Bachelor's Degree

Salary:

Pay Range: $89,767.01 - $134,650.51

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience.

Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Comcast provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a Commission under the terms of an applicable plan, while most non-sales positions are eligible for a Bonus.
