6-Month Internship-Strategic Procurement

Job Description

Siemens Large Drives Applications has an opening for a 6-Month Internship in our Norwood, Ohio, Manufacturing Facility. As part of the Siemens Norwood’s Strategic Procurement team, you will work efficiently alongside with cross-functions such as Engineering and PLM, and other internal & external interfaces to ensure that our products and the underlying supply chain are as efficient as possible. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, being able to handle responsibilities, cost and value engineering skills as well as configuration and implementation skills. As an intern, you will be responsible for the analyzation of costs and various other product parts in order to optimally reduce part and supplier variety.

• Analyzing and evaluating technical drawings and deriving potentials for future part reductions and cost savings on a global scale
• Preparation of standardization and harmonization workshops for motor laminations
• Carrying out internal trainings for part reduction strategies and methods
• Providing product benchmarks, comprehension of findings, and transferring these onto Siemens products
• Preparation and professional presentation of benchmark results
• Merging product parts and supply approaches to decrease the supplier and production varieties
• Understanding and optimizing the complexity of cost and value effects along the whole lifecycle of a product
• Evaluation of product cost structures using sophisticated cost breakdown methods
• Supporting of supplier negotiations and commodity strategies

• Minimum 3.3 GPA
• Currently enrolled as a graduate student pursuing a MS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields
• Able to work from Cincinnati, OH without relocation assistance
• Sophisticated experience with cost and value methods, detailed cost breakdowns, benchmarking, and standardization approaches
• Proficient in MS Excel (including VBA) and MS PowerPoint
• Skillful handling of CAD software and very good understanding of technical drawings
• Excellent team working and communications skills (verbal & written) skills in English
• Ability to work independently and apply creative thinking strategies for problem solving

• Ability to use the software Teamcenter Product Cost Management (TcPCM) to analyze and improve product cost structures
• Understanding of Python & Java coding environments
• Experience in sophisticated product development methods especially regarding part reduction
• Relevant working experience in the demanding enterprise tech industry
• Proven experience in giving professional presentations, trainings and carrying out workshops

May consider sponsorship of short-term J-1 visa students (6-12 months), dependent upon program requirements
