Job Description

The Sony Pictures Entertainment Internship program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside the teams that come together to create movies, TV shows, and other great experiences. These seasonal, paid assignments provide meaningful and productive work that allows you to build your resume, experience and develop your skills further. This Spring Internship is from January through May 26th and all candidates must be able to work between 10-29 hours a week, Monday through Friday (flexible depending on school schedule).

At Sony Pictures, our mission is to meet audiences where they are and connect them to the content they love and are looking for across our rich and diverse repertoire of movie and television Intellectual Property (IP). We map relevant movie and TV series content to consumers and audiences across transactional, subscription and linear viewing platforms. We’re building data products and visualization tools and insights platform that will predict audience preferences and behaviour for library and new releases to drive growth of engagement and consumption of Sony produced content. Sony produces franchise brands such as Spiderman, Men in Black and Jumanji, through to TV franchises such as Breaking Bad, Blacklist and Better Call Saul.

Our Data team is responsible for leveraging and aggregating millions of consumer data points to deliver best in class predictive models, consumer trends systems, recommendation engines and more! We are responsible for leading audience and strategic analytics that enable us to understand the changing consumer behaviors and preferences within the media landscape.

The OSDS (One Sony Data Stack) Graduate Data Science intern will assist OSDS Data Scientists with tasks such as:

• Data cleansing and preparation
• Writing and executing queries in SQL
• Assisting with model building using Python and R
• Interpreting data and creating visualizations that help identify patterns
• Maintaining Github repositories
• Performing ad hoc analytics to answer real business questions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled in a quantitative Graduate program, such as Statistics, Data Science, Applied Math, Computer Science, Business Analytics or related field
• Strong analytical background with the ability to analyze datasets
• Relevant statistical/data science coursework
• Familiar with statistical model concepts such as linear regression and classification models
• Experience with analytical based software (R, Python, SAS, STATA, etc)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Able to work in a team environment as well as independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with intermediate/advanced statistical or machine learning models and concepts (such as XGBoost or other tree-based models, cluster analysis, feature importance)
• Proficient with R or Python
• Proficient in SQL
• Experience working with data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift)
• Exposure to cloud-based platforms (AWS)
• Experience with Github or other version control software
