200432975 As part of the Battery Engineering group, we are looking for a cell engineer who will be crafting battery solutions that deliver more energy and power in limited spaces. You will help us innovate new battery technologies from chemistries: mainly anode electrode to final cells. You will be responsible for anode electrode/cell design and supporting battery material development with deep cell electrode/cell design expertise. This role involves working closely with internal multi-functional teams, external cell vendors and materials vendors. The Battery Product Development team at Apple produces high energy and highly reliable embedded battery systems for all product teams. Tightly coordinated with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design and Reliability Testing groups, we own battery module development from initial system architecture through ramp. The Battery Cell Engineering Design Group works within the Battery Product Development organization and is seeking a technical leader focused on developing and qualifying advanced lithium based rechargeable cell designs for new product consideration, develop performance and test specifications for batteries for new products, work to define cell designs that meet internal customer requirements and supervise failure analysis and root cause investigations.

- 7+ years of experience on battery material and design development including tracking process and cell performance / safety characteristics for lithium ion or polymer cells.
- Must have hands on experiences in test equipment, test script and test procedures.
- Familiar with current production processes applicable to pouch cells.
- Experience with applying quality tools including statistical analysis of performance results, process capabilities, and design of experiments.
- Experience with mathematical modeling of lithium ion battery designs is a plus.
- Familiar with applicable patent field and patent application process.
- Strong verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.
- Attention to details, ability to work well individually and in team settings.
Description
Description Leads engineering qualification efforts for new anode materials, electrodes, and cell design to completion of cell products. Pursues development of intellectual property to protect technology developments and secure competitive position. Work closely with component materials engineers to implement new technology on the materials to the optimized cell design. Using quality tools, analyze process capabilities, summarizes data and determines acceptability for products developments. Work with operation teams on root cause analysis and corrective actions (FACA) as required and IQC/OQC and vendor quality control. Prepare project updates and goals, related status reports for problems or issues and makes recommendations as required through investigations with team.
