Position Summary

The Marqeta People Team strives to revolutionize the People and Culture function, in the same way that Marqeta is revolutionizing payments. We are helping to find, grow, and retain the remarkable assemblage of talent who are our Marqetans.

Reporting to our Chief HR/People Officer Sunaina Lobo, the Senior Director of Employee Experience will be responsible for nurturing culture and engagement while overseeing strategies focused on improving the experience between managers and employees.

We’re looking for someone who possesses a passion for people with proven experience in developing and implementing a best-in-class employee experience. You will have an outsized impact on Marqeta’s commitment to develop and engage a global workforce.

You bring an innovative, high-tech, modern, and inspiring approach that helps to align employees with Marqeta’s vision, culture, and business strategy.

And finally, you have a strategic and consultative mindset and function as a subject matter expert to consult business partners across the organization, establish organizational best practices, training guidelines, and talent evaluation processes for the Marqeta of tomorrow.

What You'll Do

• Execute effective organizational strategies and People transformations on a large scale, apply a deep understanding and expertise of employee engagement, the ability to build coalitions that are passionate about the employee experience, and collaborate comfortably with senior management and executive leadership.
• Create a culture of learning through a variety of methods (e.g., virtual and blended approaches) and develop learning benchmarks and measures of success.
• Align and support executive communications on culture, employee experience, and engagement topics.
• Lead succession planning at an organizational level, and manage the succession planning process with the Board of Directors.
• Provide guidance to create an environment where employees are engaged and able to perform at their fullest potential.
• Serve as an internal advisor initiating ideas across the organization that influence Marqeta’s global culture strategy and engagement.
• Access and analyze data to help identify trends, insights, and gaps to inform culture strategy as well as relevant programming and interventions.
• Advise and partner with the People team, especially HR Business Partners, Internal Communications, and other key stakeholders.
• Oversee organizational communications such as intranet bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources.

What We're Looking For

• 15+ years of professional experience with an emphasis on employee engagement, employee experience, organizational effectiveness, or other related People disciplines
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Ability to create and communicate a compelling and progressive vision and strategy and provide coaching
• Experience tailoring learning programs from individual contributors through to executive staff
• Ability to synthesize large data sets into executive summaries that create a compelling case for change
• Experience designing impactful and measurable programs for engagement and onboarding
• Ability to see “around corners” in order to drive high level strategy into programs that are measurable and impactful
• Action-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
• High emotional intelligence with excellent relationship management skills and the ability to influence across all functions and levels of the organization
• Global experience and/or distributed workforce experience
• Startup/high growth company experience with a proven track record of thriving in fast-paced environments
