Eaton is currently seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our team based in Rockville, MD or Plymouth, MN. Hybrid work available!

In this role as a Sr. Firmware Engineer, you will develop next generation technology solutions to enable the smart grid to become smarter! You will be a member of a dynamic, experienced team who can help design, implement, and test smart algorithms and controls for our exciting digital devices. In this role you will:

  • Participate in all phases of the product development lifecycle to ensure quality and reliability
  • Design, implement, and test software for RF network, control algorithms, embedded drivers, protocols, and communication technologies
  • Develop supporting engineering documentation including software requirements specifications, design documentation and design verification test plans
  • Estimate workload, establish and maintain project schedules and monitor progress through the project execution phases.
  • Ensure the product specifications are complete, accurate and achievable.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and provide solutions for software problems
  • Collaborate with external and internal customers including training.
  • Communication with the cross functional team to ensure schedule, cost and performance alignment.
Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in embedded software development in C, C# and/or C++
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Plymouth, MN or Rockville, MD will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical, Electronics, Computer, or Software Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience in developing RF networking technologies including WiFi, Bluetooth/BLE, Cellular
  • Knowledge of networking protocols and OSI model
  • Experience in Agile design methodologies
  • Familiarity with software configuration and change management processes and tools (SVN, Git, Jira, etc.)
  • Experience developing solutions utilizing ARM Cortex processors
  • Experience working with Real Time Operating Systems
  • Working knowledge of shell scripts and python

Experience with test equipment such as: oscilloscope, logic analyzers
